Job Description

Our vision is to transform the lives of one billion people with sustainable products by 2030.
Position Description
The Legal Officer will provide legal support to d.light. In addition, they will be responsible for the management of d.light's debt recovery matters especially in the Subordinate Courts such as Small Claims Courts (SCC) and Magistrate Courts. The role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including legal research, legal drafting, management of documentation, filing of suits, attending court for mentions, hearings, executing judgments and keeping the business up to date on case developments. Additionally, the Legal Officer will collaborate closely with internal teams and departments to obtain necessary evidence, prepare witnesses, and aid with general legal matters as needed.
Roles and Responsibilities
Legal Research and Drafting
- Assist in conducting legal research and analysis related to cases in various courts/tribunals.
- Draft pleadings, affidavits, and other legal documents as required.
- Prepare legal arguments and strategies for litigation.
Filing and Court Proceedings
- File suits and other legal documents in various courts/tribunals especially Small Claims Court.
- Attend mentions, pre-trial conferences, and hearings as required.
- Represent d.light's interests professionally in court proceedings.
Case Management
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files and trackers.
- Monitor deadlines and ensure timely compliance with court procedures.
- Assist in the execution of judgments and enforcement of court orders.
Communication and Collaboration
- Liaise with different departments within d.light to gather evidence and relevant information for legal proceedings.
- Prepare witnesses for testimony and coordinate their appearances in court.
- Keep the Head of Legal abreast of all legal matters and provide regular updates on case progress.
General Legal Assistance
- Provide ongoing legal support to the Company on a broad range of operational and corporate matters.
- Advise on legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements affecting the Company's operations.
- Monitor and interpret applicable laws, regulations, and policies, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Handle ad-hoc legal issues and provide timely risk-based guidance to internal stakeholders which may arise from time to time.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Law from a recognized institution. Additional legal certifications or courses are a plus.
- Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in good standing.
- 1-2 Years Post Qualification Experience.
- Hold a current Practicing Certificate (2026).
- Familiarity with the legal procedures and practices in the Small Claims Court (SCC).
- Prior internship or work experience in a legal environment is advantageous.
