Job Description

A Maintenance Technician I is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and repairing production equipment as required, while working with the senior members of the team to complete electrical and mechanical projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative/predictive maintenance to all production equipment as required.
  • Work side-by-side with experienced technician during equipment repair and learn smart/safe work practices.
  • Complete small electrical and mechanical projects based on direction given from Team Lead/ Supervisor
  • Demonstrate safe work practices and follow company safety policies, procedures, and regulations at all times.
  • Ensure compliance of all Company policies
  • Maintain personal compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and recommend measures to improve health and safety.
  • Work within a team environment and interact with all areas of production effectively.
  • Repair and replace electrical/hydraulic/pneumatic and electronic components such as motors, contractors, relays, timers, types of switches, PLCs, light curtains, motor controls and valves under direction of Team Lead/ Supervisor
  • Recognize and diagnose faults on electrical equipment or systems, which may involve complex interlocking, interrelated circuits, integrated systems and complex sequencing.
  • Examine, install, replace and repair electronic wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, cable assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical components.
  • Maintain production equipment to maximize operating performance and assist with maintaining electrical spare parts' inventory levels.
  • Perform repairs on equipment to restore them to proper and safe work conditions under direction of Team Lead/ Supervisor
  • Perform installation, set up, modification and relocation of equipment to accommodate or improve production requirements.
  • Read electrical and electronic schematics/diagrams, basic hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams.
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance
  • Ensure production schedule is not jeopardized due to machine breakdown, or unsafe operating conditions and inform Team Lead/Supervisor about changes in electric circuits and update original diagrams.
  • Always follow LOCK OUT/TAG OUT procedure on unsafe machines/machines being serviced.
  • Adhere to work orders, preventive/predictive maintenance systems by filling in required forms,

Qualifications

Skills

  • Troubleshooting experience with electrical & mechanical equipment, PLC systems, Robots, AC drives, DC drives, servo drives, motion control, HMI interface, motor controls, safety sensors, and relays
  • Able to read wiring diagrams, electrical/mechanical/pneumatic/hydraulic schematics and ladder/function block logic
  • Theoretical knowledge of industrial PCs and PLCs (Siemens Step 7, Beckhoff TwinCat, etc.) and electric circuitry consisting of contractors, relays, main voltage/control voltage, limit switches and proximity sensors
  • Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Systems (CMMS) an asset
