ABOUT THE ROLE
TransAlta is seeking a temporary Balance of Plant (BOP) Wind Technician to join our team at the Pincher Creek wind farm located in Southern Alberta.
This role is responsible for maintaining, servicing, repairing, and installing balance-of-plant equipment to support the safe, compliant, and reliable operation of TransAlta's wind assets in the Pincher Creek and Fort Macleod region. The BOP Wind Technician executes daily to three-month maintenance and operational activities in alignment with the Supervisor's business plan, ensuring all work follows TransAlta's operating model, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
This is a full-time, temporary, safety sensitive position based out of Pincher Creek, Alberta. The successful candidate will be required to complete pre-employment testing.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Ensure optimal performance through daily scheduling, planning, and execution of maintenance, service, and repair work on wind turbine equipment, working as part of a coordinated team of wind technicians and contractors to deliver agreed outcomes.
- Support the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of specialized environmental and regulatory site systems, including seasonal adjustments, performance verification, and integration with site controls.
- Support the daily to three-month operations and maintenance plan by driving operational performance, meeting business objectives, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Work closely with Lead Technicians and the Supervisor as part of a high-performance team to achieve plant targets and maintain reliable operations.
- Identify and mitigate risks that may negatively affect operational or business outcomes, while recognizing and acting on opportunities that improve performance.
- Maintain operational compliance with all EHS, NERC, OHS, and related standards by following TransAlta procedures, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Drive strong performance in safety, compliance, plant availability, and cost by ensuring routine and preventative maintenance is completed accurately, on time, to a high standard, and thoroughly documented.
- Contribute to a collaborative and professional work environment by partnering effectively with peers, stakeholders, and support groups to resolve issues and maintain productive working relationships.
- Maintain required training, qualifications, and competencies, ensuring full compliance with all training expectations.
ABOUT YOU
- Appropriate trade certification in a related discipline, and/or possess tangible and related progressive experience and skills.
- Possess required safety certifications such as Working at Heights and Fall Protection, are comfortable working at heights, and have high-angle rescue training as an asset.
- Bring an electrical or mechanical background, which is considered a strong asset for this role.
- Have a comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles within your own discipline, along with practical knowledge of related disciplines.
- Understand the operational aspects of the plant, including technical, compliance, financial, and risk-mitigation considerations.
- Have a thorough understanding of the TransAlta operating model and how it supports safe, reliable facility performance.
- Understand contractor requirements, procurement processes, and inventory management practices.
- Are well-versed in how related teams coordinate efforts and resources to achieve shared objectives.
- Able to develop, implement, and manage daily to three-month operational plans, monitor and forecast performance, and identify risks, opportunities, and improvement initiatives.
- Capable of supporting internal and external stakeholder needs, managing shifting priorities, applying lessons learned, and coaching and mentoring team members.
