Approximately 100 employees (source: geekwire.com). Total funding raised stands at $752.05 million (source: cbinsights.com).

What They Do

Group14 Technologies specializes in the development of advanced battery materials, particularly focusing on silicon-carbon composite anodes. Their flagship product, SCC55, replaces traditional graphite in lithium-ion batteries, resulting in a remarkable 50% increase in energy density. This innovation not only enhances the performance of batteries but also enables faster recharging, making it suitable for a wide range of applications including electric vehicles (EVs), consumer electronics, medical devices, aviation, and grid storage (source: cbinsights.com). The company has developed a proprietary technology that integrates silicon into carbon structures, which is protected by 33 patents primarily related to lithium-ion batteries and nanomaterials (source: cbinsights.com). By targeting original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the EV and electronics sectors, Group14 has secured partnerships with notable companies such as Porsche AG, which plans to integrate their technology into its electric vehicles (source: crunchbase.com). Their competitive edge lies in their ability to offer drop-in compatibility with existing lithium-ion infrastructure, making it easier for manufacturers to adopt their technology.

Projects & Track Record

Group14 Technologies has made significant strides in the battery materials sector, notably launching its first commercial-scale Battery Active Materials factory at its Woodinville headquarters in April 2021. This facility marked the beginning of their commercial supply of SCC55 to consumer electronics customers (source: geekwire.com). Currently, they are engaged in constructing two manufacturing modules in Moses Lake, Washington, which are expected to produce materials sufficient for at least 200,000 electric vehicles, utilizing hydropower for sustainable production (source: cbinsights.com). Additionally, Group14 is collaborating with SK Inc. to establish a joint venture battery material factory in South Korea, further expanding their production capabilities and supply chains (source: geekwire.com). These projects not only highlight their commitment to scaling production but also position them strategically within the growing Pacific Northwest battery hub.

Recent Developments

In the past two years, Group14 Technologies has successfully secured substantial funding to support its growth and expansion initiatives. In May 2022, they raised $400 million in a Series C funding round led by Porsche AG, aimed at integrating their technology into electric vehicles (source: geekwire.com). This was followed by an additional $214 million from Microsoft’s Climate Innovation Fund and other investors, bringing the total for the Series C round to $614 million, which ranked them among the top 10 climate tech investments of that year (source: cbinsights.com). Furthermore, they received $100 million in federal funding in October 2022 from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, aimed at bolstering U.S. battery manufacturing for electric vehicles and grid applications (source: geekwire.com). These developments underscore Group14's rapid growth trajectory and its pivotal role in the evolving battery technology landscape.

Working There

Group14 Technologies offers a variety of roles primarily in research and development, manufacturing, engineering, and operations, reflecting their focus on scaling production capabilities. The company has experienced significant growth, expanding from 5 to 30 employees in just one year prior to 2021, and surpassing 100 employees by 2022 (source: crunchbase.com). Their primary hiring locations include Woodinville, where their headquarters and first factory are situated, as well as Moses Lake, Washington, which is integral to their expansion plans. The company culture emphasizes values such as passion, collaboration, tenacity, and integrity, aiming to redefine the rechargeable battery landscape (source: group14.technology). While specific employee benefits are not detailed in public sources, the emphasis on a collaborative and innovative work environment is evident in their operational ethos.

Job Description

Founded with the vision to electrify everything, Group14 is the leading commercial manufacturer of advanced silicon battery materials. Our breakthrough technology, SCC55??, is unlocking transformational performance for rechargeable batteries that power the world's most critical innovations, from electric vehicles and AI-enabled electronics to eVTOLs and grid-scale energy storage. By enabling higher-density, faster-charging batteries, we are helping accelerate the global transition to an electrified future.

Over the past year, Group14 reached major milestones that underscore our momentum. We closed a $463 million Series D round, bringing our total equity raised to more than $1 billion, and acquired full ownership of a battery materials factory in South Korea, strengthening global supply chains and scaling production to meet surging demand. Headquartered in Washington state with manufacturing operations worldwide, Group14 is backed by world-class investors and customers, including Porsche, ATL, Microsoft, and SK Inc. As we continue to grow, we are building a team united by passion for shaping the future of energy.

As the Vice President, Construction Management, you will lead the physical realization of our global expansion. You will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of our industry-leading manufacturing plants. Our BAM (Battery Active Material) modules are specialized, modular manufacturing facilities designed to produce high-performance silicon-carbon anode material for lithium-ion batteries. You will also be responsible for new construction and/or restart of existing specialty chemical manufacturing facilities delivering silane gas. You'll manage concurrent projects across multiple continents and will employ the project management approach best suited to each individual region and facility. You may own the entire team and construction project, you may manage outsourced partners without a direct team, or a hybrid approach of the two, depending on what is most efficient and cost effective. This role oversees the entire Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) lifecycle, ensuring that our complex industrial assets are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Global Execution Strategy: Define and execute the strategy for worldwide facility rollouts, including site selection logistics, coordination of all internal Group14 resources and capabilities, budgeting and financial management, and country-specific labor and vendor strategies.
  • EPC Management: Lead the selection, negotiation, and oversight of global EPC firms. You will be the primary point of accountability for the performance of external partners.
  • Project Controls & Governance: Establish rigorous standards for project management, including cost engineering, scheduling (Primavera/MS Project/Kahua), risk mitigation, and change-order management.
  • Stakeholder Leadership: Act as the bridge between the executive leadership team, local government entities, and on-site project teams.
  • Procurement & Supply Chain: Oversee the procurement, delivery and installation of long-lead equipment and materials, navigating the complexities of global supply chains in the construction industry.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical) or Construction Management. MBA preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in heavy industrial construction (e.g. Oil & Gas, Semiconductors, Chemical or Gigafactories).
  • Proven experience working the "owner side" within a corporate setting while managing large, complex capital projects.
  • Proven experience delivering $1B+ projects from greenfield to commissioning both on time and on budget.
  • Experience working with a Tier 1 EPC or Construction firm with a deep understanding of contractor business practices, financial structures (costs and margins) and operations.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% (domestic and international).
  • Technical Agility: Ability to toggle between high-level financial forecasting and deep-dive technical troubleshooting on the factory floor.
  • International Expertise: Familiarity with international building codes, permitting processes, and diverse labor environments (North America, Europe, South Korea).
  • Safety First: An uncompromising commitment to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards in high-hazard industrial and chemical environments.
  • Startup Agility: Comfortable building departments and processes from scratch while maintaining the pace of a high-growth company.
  • Strong Financial Acumen: Beyond knowing the numbers, able to see around the corner to anticipate issues and make sound financial decisions when large budgets are at stake.
  • Organizational Savvy: Understands how to read an organization, how to get things done formally and informally, and how to partner effectively across multiple teams, departments and regions.
