What They Do

Blue Sky Utility specializes in renewable energy solutions, focusing on custom solar photovoltaic systems and energy storage tailored for commercial real estate. Their offerings include comprehensive services that span engineering, financial structuring, installation, and maintenance, all provided with zero upfront costs to clients (source: blueskyutility.com). The company targets a variety of sectors, particularly multitenant retail landlords and tenants, as well as manufacturing and small businesses, aiming to deliver practical sustainability solutions without requiring capital outlay (source: zoominfo.com). Their products are designed to enhance energy efficiency, provide cost savings, and ensure compliance with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards, thereby increasing property values (source: blueskyutility.com). The company's unique no-upfront-cost model and scalable solutions position it competitively within the U.S. solar market, especially following its acquisition by Nofar Energy, which brings additional expertise and resources (source: blueskyutility.com).

Projects & Track Record

One of Blue Sky Utility's notable projects is the 1.62MW bifacial solar rooftop installation at a shopping mall in Hanford, California, completed in February 2018 in collaboration with Sunpreme Inc. and Passco Companies. This project was significant as it represented one of the largest rooftop solar arrays on a shopping mall in California at that time (source: prnewswire.com). While there are no specific ongoing major projects detailed in recent sources, Blue Sky Utility continues to support commercial solar and storage deployments across the U.S., leveraging its scalable model for retail properties (source: blueskyutility.com). Their client roster includes well-known retail tenants such as Noodles Inc. and State Farm Insurance, showcasing their ability to cater to both small businesses and national brands (source: blueskyutility.com). The geographic focus remains primarily in California, with recent expansions into Florida following the acquisition by Nofar Energy (source: blueskyutility.com).

Recent Developments

In the past two years, Blue Sky Utility underwent a significant transformation when Nofar Energy acquired a 67% stake for $91 million, marking Nofar's entry into the U.S. commercial solar market (source: blueskyutility.com). In early 2023, Allon Raveh was appointed as the Executive Chairman, bringing a wealth of experience from his previous role in developing over 700MW of solar and storage assets in the U.S. (source: blueskyutility.com). The company has also referenced new legislation that is expected to fuel growth in the renewable sector, although specific details or timelines have not been disclosed (source: blueskyutility.com). Beyond the Nofar acquisition, there have been no documented mergers, acquisitions, or funding rounds since the initial $5 million total funding, indicating a focus on consolidating their market position (source: builtin.com).

Working There

Blue Sky Utility offers a variety of roles across different departments, including finance, operations, legal, sales, and engineering. The company currently employs approximately 30 individuals, with specific roles such as 11 in finance, 7 in operations, and 3 in C-suite positions (source: zoominfo.com). The leadership team includes experienced professionals like Executive Chairman Allon Raveh, who holds an M.Sc. in Finance from London Business School, and CFO Michael Medina, who has over 18 years of experience in the renewable sector (source: blueskyutility.com). Hiring is likely to occur at their California offices in Napa and Novato, as well as their new corporate site in Boca Raton, Florida, reflecting their active operations and growth strategy (source: zoominfo.com). The company culture emphasizes innovation in clean energy solutions, with team testimonials highlighting the benefits of green branding and partnerships, supported by Nofar's ambitious growth goals toward achieving zero emissions by 2050 (source: blueskyutility.com).
