Job Description

Reporting to the SPEN Director of Health & Safety, the main purpose of the role is to lead a team responsible for the implementation and delivery of the Health and Safety Policy, Strategy and Operating Plan across the business. The overall aim is to achieve world class H&S performance working in partnership with all key stakeholders including employees, contractors, customers, regulators, industry bodies and members of the public.

What you'll be doing

  • Help to create and lead the delivery of the H&S Strategy, Operating Plan and equivalent programmes within ScottishPower Energy Networks and across various disciplines (engineering, project management, delivery, construction, field operations and asset management etc.).
  • Manage a Health and Safety Team and be responsible for setting objectives, coach to maximise performance and deliver results.
  • Develop and implement process and behavioural solutions to complex health and safety challenges to improve performance. Creating and the continuous improvement of a portfolio of procedural documents.
  • Regularly liaise with key SPEN stakeholders to coordinate priorities, deliver consistency in approach and to maintain a high level of H&S service being provided.
  • Set, deliver and monitor weekly and monthly the SPEN H&S Team Audit & Inspection Programme from Management System audits to Focused Inspections. Set priorities monthly making full use of software and reporting systems available. Perform own audits and inspections too.
  • Coordinate effective arrangements across the business for H&S Risk Management e.g., activity or role risk assessments supported by task specific and dynamic RA's.
  • Deputise for Health and Safety Director when required.
  • Support, report, advise on and improve robust safety management processes internally and across the breadth of contracted investment programmes.
  • Liaise with emergency services, HSE, ENA and other internal and external stakeholders in relation to H&S matters.
  • Develop and drive the achievement of zero harm performance through H&S leadership and skills.
  • Responsible for development, review, monitoring and reporting of Business Improvement Plans (or equivalent) to establish high quality process and documentation and delivery of key initiatives.
  • Ensure mechanisms are in place for incident investigation, reporting and lessons learned across the company. Participate in incident investigation where necessary.
  • Ensure arrangements are in place, monitor effectiveness and make improvements regarding internal employee H&S engagement e.g., local Safety Forums, Safety Rep Forums etc.

What you'll bring

  • Educated to HNC level in H&S or engineering or equivalent proven compensatory experience.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent compensatory experience.
  • Specialist knowledge and experience of risk identification, risk control, risk monitoring and H&S audit process.
  • Proven experience in influencing large groups of employees with credibility and ability to deliver.
  • Proven experience of practical H&S leadership or Operational leadership.
  • A clear understanding of the whole value chain in terms of utility, engineering, construction and operations and the key processes which H&S need to influence / monitor.
  • Ability to operate and positively influence at all levels in the organisation and with external stakeholders.
  • Proven experience of practical solutions to complex and risk-based problems or challenges.
  • Facilitation, mentoring and coaching skills.
  • Preferably membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (holding or working towards a professional qualification).

Minimum Criteria

  • Educated to HNC level in H&S or engineering or equivalent proven compensatory experience.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent compensatory experience.
  • Proven experience of practical H&S leadership or Operational leadership.
  • A clear understanding of the whole value chain in terms of utility, engineering, construction and operations and the key processes which H&S need to influence / monitor.
  • Based within the SP Manweb licence area of the company (either Prenton, Liverpool or Wrexham) and can commit to regular travel to fulfil responsibilities of role.
  • UK Driving Licence.
