ABOUT THE ROLE

TransAlta is currently hiring for a Mechanical Specialist - Electrical Instrumentation Technician. Reporting to the Windsor Plant Manager, the E/I Technician maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots plant electrical/instrumentation systems to ensure safe, reliable operations.

This is a full-time, unionized, safety-sensitive position. Pre-employment testing will be required as a condition of employment.

This is a Unifor Local 444 position covered by the terms of the collective agreement.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

  • Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot plant electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance and submit work requests.
  • Ensure equipment meets safety, regulatory, and performance requirements.
  • Follow safe isolation, electrical safety, and maintenance procedures.
  • Maintain accurate CMMS records and support reliability improvements.
  • Respond to call-outs for urgent electrical/instrumentation issues.
  • Work with contractors and Maintenance Support Staff; help manage spare parts.
  • Train and support team members on EI maintenance practices.
  • Perform routine housekeeping and other duties as assigned.

ABOUT YOU

  • Electrical Trade Certificate or Instrumentation Technologist Certificate (dual trade an asset).
  • Skilled in troubleshooting, preventative/predictive maintenance, and work management.
  • Comfortable using business IT systems; SAP experience an asset.
  • Strong understanding of safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, quick to learn, and proactive in your work.
  • Able to perform under pressure, adapt to changing priorities, and work well in a team.
  • Customer-service mindset with integrity, resilience, and initiative.
