FORLIANCE

Company Overview

FORLIANCE GmbH

Bonn, Germany

1998

Approximately 150 employees (Source: forliance.com). The company has supported over 1,500 corporate clients (Source: forliance.com).

What They Do

FORLIANCE specializes in nature-based climate protection solutions, including reforestation, agroforestry, improved forest management, mangrove restoration, and biochar carbon storage. Unlike hardware solutions such as solar or wind energy, the company focuses on providing services to assist businesses in implementing climate protection measures (Source: forliance.com). The services offered include consulting on climate protection measures for net-zero strategies, technical services for certification, monitoring, reporting, verification (MRV), geo-digital modeling, and financial planning, as well as technical asset management for project initiation, financing, development, and operation (Source: initiative20x20.org). FORLIANCE offers products such as carbon credits from verified projects that comply with standards like Gold Standard and Verra's Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) (Source: forliance.com).

Projects & Track Record

Since 1998, FORLIANCE has initiated, financed, developed, and managed over 100 nature-based projects worldwide. Notable projects include the Vichada Climate Reforestation Project in Colombia (2015-2019), which received a Gold Standard group certification and provided extensive training in MRV and GIS mapping (Source: initiative20x20.org). Another significant project is the Tropical Mix project in the Darién province of Panama, which has been running for over 30 years and employs over 150 full-time staff, supporting more than 1,000 people across five communities (Source: forliance.com). Current major projects include the Re-Spire Westerwald in Rhineland-Palatinate, recognized as Germany's first acknowledged forest carbon project, as well as a large-scale agroforestry plantation for fine flavor cocoa in the Dominican Republic (Source: forliance.com).

Recent Developments

In 2023, Macquarie Asset Management acquired a majority stake in FORLIANCE, enabling the scaling of large-scale nature-based solutions (Source: forliance.com). The company received ICROA accreditation following an application in 2021 to embed best practices for customer trust and market development (Source: forliance.com). Ongoing milestones include collaboration with Gold Standard to develop a sustainable mangrove management methodology and continued management of projects like Vichada and Tropical Mix beyond carbon certification (Source: forliance.com).

Working There

FORLIANCE employs a multidisciplinary team in climate consulting, technical services (MRV, GIS, certification), project development, asset management, and business development. Roles likely include forestry experts, financial planners, and geo-digital specialists (Source: initiative20x20.org). Recruitment focuses on the headquarters in Bonn and deployment locations such as the Dominican Republic, as indicated by growth announcements following the rebranding and acquisition by Macquarie (Source: forliance.com). The company culture emphasizes building alliances and long-term project commitments, reflected in initiatives like Tropical Mix (Source: forliance.com).
