What They Do
Windlab specializes in wind energy development, leveraging its proprietary WindScape technology, which is a suite of atmospheric modeling tools originally developed by CSIRO. This technology enables the identification of high-quality wind farm sites while minimizing risk, which is crucial for successful project development. In addition to wind energy, Windlab is expanding its focus to include solar energy, battery storage hybrids, and other renewable generators, thereby broadening its impact in the clean energy sector (source: windlab.com). The company offers a comprehensive range of services, including site identification, project financing, construction, operation, and management of wind farms and hybrid renewable projects, ensuring a full lifecycle approach from concept to decommissioning (source: rocketreach.co). Windlab's target markets include Australia, North America, New Zealand, and Southern Africa, serving a diverse clientele that encompasses utilities, governments, communities, and institutional investors seeking sustainable energy solutions (source: growjo.com). The company has established a competitive edge by securing an impressive 7,406 MW of potential capacity across 48 projects, showcasing its unparalleled success rate in the industry (source: growjo.com).
Projects & Track Record
Windlab has successfully developed over 1,093 MW of wind farm capacity across three continents, including Australia, North America, and Southern Africa. This capacity represents a significant contribution to the energy landscape, unlocking over 20% of the total connected wind energy in Australia's National Electricity Market (source: growjo.com). Notable projects include the Kennedy Energy Park, a 50 MW wind-solar-battery hybrid facility located in far North Queensland, which received funding from ARENA to support near-baseload generation (source: businessabc.net). Currently, Windlab has a robust development pipeline consisting of 45-50 projects with a total capacity of 7,500-7,700 MW, focusing on accelerating delivery to the National Electricity Market following its acquisition in 2020 (source: au.investing.com). The company has established strong partnerships with key clients, including power purchase agreement holders and historical ties to organizations such as ARENA and CSIRO, which have supported its growth and development efforts (source: windlab.com).
Recent Developments
In June 2020, Windlab's acquisition by Squadron Energy and Federation Asset Management was approved by shareholders and the Supreme Court of New South Wales, marking a significant transition from its previous status as a publicly listed company on the ASX (source: squadronenergy.com). Since then, the company has focused on advancing its extensive pipeline of over 7,500 MW, aligning with Australia's energy transition goals. While there have been no major announcements or contracts reported from 2024-2026, Windlab continues to position itself as a leader in the renewable energy sector, particularly through its involvement in one of the largest global power purchase agreements (source: windlab.com). Earlier milestones include recognition as a finalist for the Exporter of the Year award and securing funding for the Kennedy Energy Park, which underscores its commitment to innovation and excellence in renewable energy development (source: aph.gov.au).
Working There
Windlab employs around 120 people, with roles spanning various departments including technical experts, engineers, community leaders, and finance professionals. The company is led by CEO John Martin, CFO Iwan Tirta, and Head of Construction John Burke, who guide the team through the project lifecycle from site identification to operational management (source: growjo.com). The primary office is located in Canberra, but there is potential for hiring in other Australian locations as the company tracks employee growth and past international presence (source: cbinsights.com). Windlab's culture emphasizes long-term stakeholder commitment and collaborative problem-solving, fostering an environment where integrated teams work together to achieve high standards and respond effectively to human, environmental, and cultural contexts (source: windlab.com). While specific employee benefits are not documented, the company's private status under Squadron Energy suggests a stable work environment in a growing sector with significant revenue potential (source: growjo.com).

Job Description
Windlab is Australia's clean energy pioneer. For over 20 years, we have set new standards in the development and construction of clean energy infrastructure through an unwavering commitment to balance the needs of our stakeholders, community, Country, and the environment.
We're raising the bar on renewables through our commitment to the highest standards from day one, driven by a long-term view and a strong sense of integrity. Our in-house experts bring the agility and technical insight needed to innovate quickly and solve complex challenges. And through genuine partnerships, we work closely with communities to ensure our projects deliver meaningful and lasting benefits.
We recognise that we operate on the traditional lands of First Nations peoples who have a continued sacred connection to Country, and with that comes responsibility. We are committed to embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, stories, and knowledge in everything we do.
Our values reflect who we are, how we work, and what we stand for:
- Be tenacious. Adapting and flexing helps us overcome challenges and navigate change. We are proactive and responsive, comfortable in complexity.
- Raise the bar. Creating new standards beats being limited by existing ones. We are always learning, seeking out opportunities to improve, willing to get our hands (and boots) dirty.
- Think differently. Innovative solutions are guided by science, cutting edge methods, and the highest levels of expertise. We create magic when we put our heads together and remain open to the possibilities.
- Be ruthlessly responsible. We do the right thing because we want to, not because we have to. We listen, show compassion, keep our promises, and create lasting benefits for our people, community, environment, and Country.
Be part of the change
The Wind Engineer will lead and support resource analysis across Windlab's wind project portfolio throughout the development lifecycle. This role is suited to someone with strong wind resource assessment, energy yield analysis, and wind farm modelling experience, who enjoys working across projects from early feasibility through to late-stage pre-construction.
You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team and contribute technical expertise across multiple projects, applying a mixture of industry-standard and Windlab's in-house wind modelling and analysis tools.
Key responsibilities include
- Wind resource, wake and energy yield modelling using tools such as OpenWind, Meteodyn or similar software
- Wind farm concept and preliminary layout design
- Development of wind monitoring strategies, measurement campaigns and resource monitoring plans
- Review and interpretation of site measurements, surveys and specialist studies
- Support of projects through early development to pre-construction
- Field visits and engagement with internal and external stakeholders as required
The position can be in either Brisbane or Canberra. Consideration would be given to Melbourne and Sydney for experienced candidates.
What sets you apart
This role suits a wind engineering professional with hands-on experience in wind energy modelling, analysis and assessment, and a practical understanding of the wind farm development lifecycle. You are comfortable working in the detail, rigorously testing inputs, assumptions and outputs to deliver robust, defensible technical results.
You bring experience in wind resource assessment, energy yield analysis, and wind farm design and optimisation, using tools such as OpenWind, WindFarmer or WindPRO, ideally with experience with CFD modelling and exposure to mesoscale modelling. You apply sound engineering judgement to translate analysis into clear, practical insights that support development and investment decisions.
You are adaptable in your approach to tools and methods and are open to learning, using and contributing to the development of in-house tools, workflows and standards, with a focus on quality and continuous improvement. You value consistency and robustness in how technical analysis is delivered and are comfortable working within evolving frameworks.
You work effectively across multiple technical workstreams and within multidisciplinary teams, communicating clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You are detail-oriented, commercially aware and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership and a genuine commitment to renewable energy.
