Job Description

Become a Manager of Distribution Project Management at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. Our Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T&D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE's 5 million customer accounts. In this job, you'll be responsible for the Project Management of all distribution commodities within their respective Area Of Responsibility, including the Distribution Infrastructure Replacement commodities, DSP new circuits, DSP non-new circuits, 4kV Cutovers, and Grid Modernization projects.The Manager of Distribution Project Management will be responsible for the Project Management of all distribution commodities within their respective area of responsibility, including the Distribution Infrastructure Replacement commodities, DSP new circuits, DSP non-new circuits, 4kV Cutovers, and Grid Modernization projects. The Manager will supervise approximately a team of 6 individuals. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for the project management and oversight of approximately $300 million in distribution capital investment annually.

Focus of Role

  • Manage a staff of Project Managers and Construction Specialists within Distribution Project Management organization.
  • Directly supervise Project Managers responsible for project management of distribution projects across the IPSEC model which includes scoping, estimating, project budgeting and approval, oversight of project execution, performance monitoring, and project close-out.
  • Provide functional direction to project controls engineers responsible for cost and schedule support.
  • Build strong and collaborative working relationships with peers from project sponsoring organizations: Engineering, Asset Management, Technical Planning, Region personnel, Transmission, Permitting, Local Public Affairs, and others as needed.
  • Oversee Distribution's Infrastructure Capital Program throughout the project life-cycle including scoping and project initiation, planning and design, permit and easement acquisition, civil and electrical construction, and project close out activities.
  • Provide oversight of Distribution Projects to achieve the successful completion of work to unit and spend targets as well as a number of T&D and corporate goals.
  • Ensure appropriate resources are in place to successfully manage Distribution Program work and to meet section and departmental goals and objectives.
  • Regularly assess project and program performance manage capital spend of approximately $300 million annually to within approved targets and spend strategy.
  • Build and strengthen working relationships with other organizations across T&D and SCE involved in the initiation and execution of Distribution projects.
  • Create and maintain a safety conscious work environment by leading and influencing others to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Leads, coaches and develops project management staff to enhance their capabilities. Directly supervises project managers responsible for project management of distribution projects across the IPSEC model. Includes scoping, estimating, project budgeting and approval, oversight of project execution, performance monitoring, and project close-out.
  • Oversees project financials including budgeting, tracking, and reporting. Typically attend tactical level meetings. Provides oversight of Region-level Distribution Capital Projects throughout the project life cycle including scoping and project initiation, planning and design, permit and easement acquisition, civil and electrical construction, and project close out activities.
  • Implements and improves processes for project intake, prioritization, and governance.
  • Monitors project risks, issues, and dependencies and takes corrective actions to keep projects on track. Leads project teams, including engineers, technicians, contractors, and support staff. Provides project level guidance to project control engineers responsible for cost and schedule support. Builds strong and collaborative working relationships with Regions, DCO, and project execution teams.
  • Sets expectations for project managers to implement robust technical design reviews, constructability analyses, and testing procedures into project execution plans.
  • Conducts technical assessments of major project deliverables including system studies, equipment specifications, drawings, reports, and commissioning plans.
  • Drives consistent process improvement for managing change orders, technical submittals, and document control across project teams.
  • Provides tactical direction to Project Managers in support of Distribution Projects to achieve the successful completion of work to Region(s) unit and spend targets. Develops ATP and Execution Plans.
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five or more years of combined experience performing or supervising project management.
  • Experience in managing electric transmission and/or distribution projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience with project or program management including scoping, estimating, project budgeting and approval, oversight of project execution, performance monitoring, and project close-out.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Business, Construction Management, or other technically related fields or equivalent.
  • Project Management Certification.
  • Experience with construction or engineering within a utility industry.
  • Five or more years of managerial /supervisory experience
  • Seven or more years of Project Management, Construction, Engineering, or related experience.
  • Experience providing strategy, direction, coaching and mentoring, performance management, and salary administration for staff.
  • Experience developing and executing strategies and operational plans.
  • Experience ensuring cross functional support and collaboration including resolving cross functional issues and obstacles.
  • Experience ensuring appropriate resources are in place to successfully manage work and to meet goals and objectives.
  • Experience executing strategies across IPSEC through effective project management and oversight.
  • Experience and ability integrating work across relevant areas, developing the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, managing risks appropriately, developing and executing business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Experience with resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.
  • Strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.

Additional Information

  • This position's work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.???
