Job Description

Act as a lead for all health and safety issues in the projects ensuring the advisors are allocated to the projects and that a consistent service and support is provided to the projects. Be the first point of contact for Health and Safety escalation issues.

Support the Health and Safety Manager in the delivery of the H&S requirements, objectives, and targets. Provide technical health and safety advice and training to the project units as required. Peer review the work that the advisors are carrying out.

Audit, identify and follow up system deviations, coordinate dept or company-wide improvements.

Manage the Systems applicable to SPT Projects. Control, update and communicate procedures and guides in accordance company requirements.

What you'll be doing

  • Deputise for the Health and Safety Manager during periods of Annual Leave
  • Lead and deliver projects and programmes to meet operating objectives within performance metrics and agreed deliverables
  • Undertaking continual improvement projects demonstrating ability to impact assess options and provide recommendations for implementation
  • Advise on appropriate discharge of duties under CDM regulations in the projects organisation.
  • Take a lead in evolving guides and documents used to ensure appropriate Health and Safety requirements are included when procuring goods and services.
  • Coach and mentor a team of professional Health and Safety advisors to work within project teams to ensure adequate cognisance of Health & Safety requirements by assessing PQQ, issuing and answering TQs, over-sight of tender submissions, review of site set up and management plans.
  • Oversee programme of site visits, ensuring relevant data is captured, reviewed and appropriate actions taken
  • Review reports produced by contractors following any safety incidents. Advise on the adequacy of these, providing feedback to reach appropriate standard if required.
  • Ensure any lessons learned from safety incidents are adequately disseminated.
  • Analyse project safety management performance across the SPT Project portfolio identifying trends and making recommendations for improvement, through targeted prevention initiatives across relevant parts of the Business Unit.
  • Promote enhancement of the safety culture to not only comply with safety legislation and to move towards best practice for aspects of engineering and construction operations.
  • Coach, monitor, review and provide feedback to the SPT management team to deliver compliance with safety legislation, codes of practice, guidelines, industry standards and best practice.
  • Deliver SMS training programmes or awareness sessions.
  • Responsible for SPT safety documentation development, implementation and review.
  • Promote best practice at all stages of engineering and construction projects.
  • Establish, communicate and embed clear process and procedures at all times within project teams to meet all internal and external Health and Safety requirements.
  • Implement and maintain Scottish Power Corporate Health & Safety Group standards
  • Investigate and report on Health and Safety related NCRs.
  • Organise and take part in stakeholder initiatives.
  • Facilitate team meetings as required

What you'll bring

  • Must be able to demonstrate competency at a level equal to the requirements for Chartered Membership of IOSH.
  • Proven experience in coaching and facilitation.
  • Ability to review and implement safety management systems and processes.
  • Detailed knowledge of Health and Safety legislation.
  • IT proficient in Microsoft applications.
  • Awareness of regulatory issues impacting the business
  • Proven ability to work and influence a team environment.
  • Ability and experience to perform specific CDM roles on projects.
  • Experience of incident reporting, investigation and root cause analysis
