About the role

Project Development Team Manager

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Products & Solutions, the Project Development Team Manager leads the Project Development team and plays a critical role in securing high‑value commercial and industrial energy behind-the-meter deals.
You'll partner closely with the Energy Solution Sales team to drive the technical solution design and evaluation phase of the sales process, ensuring proposed solutions are technically robust, competitive and aligned to AGL's portfolio, delivery and commercial requirements. Positioned at the forefront of the C&I energy solutions market, this role acts as AGL's technical solution architect and technical subject matter advocate with customers. You'll collaborate across suppliers, sales, delivery and supply chain teams to shape compelling, fit‑for‑purpose energy solutions that deliver real value for our customers and the business.

What you will be doing

  • Provide strategic leadership across Energy Solution and C&I by shaping integrated planning, applying market and best‑practice insights, and partnering with the Energy Solution ELT to challenge, enable and drive key initiatives
  • Lead and develop a high‑performing, distributed team by building capability, fostering collaboration and shared ownership, managing complex senior stakeholders, and ensuring consistent ways of working and high‑quality delivery
  • Partner closely with Sales, Delivery and Engineering teams to lift the quality, consistency and competitiveness of Energy Solutions proposals, embedding sales and delivery frameworks and driving continuous improvement through lessons learned
  • Collaborate with Procurement and Contractor Services to shape subcontractor and supplier strategies, providing feedback on performance, product selection and innovation, and supporting strategic onboarding aligned to the development pipeline
  • Champion AGL's Be Safe. Be Supportive value by embedding safety‑in‑design and site safety principles into all proposal development, ensuring alignment with AGL design and management guidelines, proactively incorporating HSE lessons learned, and supporting safety initiatives that uplift outcomes across the business
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships to deliver an exceptional end‑to‑end experience, actively incorporating customer feedback and supporting Sales and Delivery teams through coaching or hands‑on senior engagement where it adds the greatest value
  • Embed robust engineering, project management, safety and commercial governance across all Energy Solutions proposals and delivery, including lifecycle management, risk and budget control, schedule review, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement
  • Build strong internal and external networks while setting and governing technical bid frameworks, pricing standards and cost controls to ensure compliant, competitive and high‑quality commercial proposals
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of AGL systems supporting project development, identifying and championing system improvements and new solutions that streamline delivery and align to the development pipeline and strategy
  • Support delivery of revenue, gross margin and customer satisfaction targets by enabling high‑performing project management and engineering teams

What we would like to see you bring

  • Proven success delivering winning technical designs and accurate EPC estimates for energy projects valued $5M-$20M on C&I sites, Distributed Energy resources and/or behind-the-meter projects.
  • Tenured experience in project development engineering, project management or similar roles within large‑scale energy projects
  • Strong capability to define solution scope and concept designs, clearly articulating value to customers and internal stakeholders
  • Deep technical expertise across distributed energy solutions (solar, batteries, energy efficiency), HV/LV power systems and value engineering
  • Strong stakeholder management, prioritisation and influencing skills, supported by an Electrical Engineering qualification and hands‑on experience with tools such as Helioscope, PVsyst or AutoCAD
