Job Description

Summary
Under the general direction of the Plant Manager, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for the overall operation and conduct of plant operational tasks and functions during an assigned shift. This position will supervise the shift operators and serves as the plant contact for all interdepartmental and contractor activities that can affect the safe and reliable operation of the site. This is a full-time, exempt, non-union position. This position is located in Philadelphia, PA.
Responsibilities
- Manages all daily shift operational activities and gives direction to assigned personnel as needed.
- Able to work rotating shift, odd hours, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
- Implements and oversees the departmental and organizational objectives for each shift.
- Ensures the plant(s) are operated in a safe and efficient manner. Complies with all applicable company, OSHA safety rules and regulations, and environmental permits and regulations.
- Provides a leadership role in implementation of company policies and procedures for improving the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the plant.
- Makes certain the shift operates in a manner that is compliant with all licensing (i.e. NERC, State, etc.) standards and rules.
- Tracks, prioritizes, and approves work orders in CMMS system.
- Ensures that consistent process control and LOTO procedures are followed in all assigned areas and shifts.
- Guarantees that uniform monitoring and recordkeeping are performed facility-wide.
- Communicates effectively with operations, engineering, maintenance, customer service, etc. to ensure customer satisfaction and successful facility operation.
- Responsible for ensuring the training program to qualify operators for promotion and to re-qualify all operators is occurring on an ongoing basis. Coaches and counsels team to improve technical skills and interpersonal and problem resolution skills. Works to identify and provide opportunities for team to learn new skills and techniques.
- Instructs staff in the operation of auxiliary and BOP equipment, as well as proper procedures for preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment. Oversees operators in housekeeping duties and other assignments as required.
- Logs data in log books, logs customer complaints and ensures complaint resolution. Performs other departmental responsibilities as assigned by Plant Manager.
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 7 years of related experience in utility or industrial setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical or trade school graduate.
- Working knowledge of high pressure boiler operation, combustion turbine, steam turbine, water treatment, chilled water, and auxiliary equipment associated with power plant and chilled water plant operations.
- Philadelphia Class A Stationary Engineers License.
- Working skills in the use of electro pneumatic/hydraulic controls, DCS controls, and computers.
- Demonstrated ability to read, analyze and record gauges and instruments, analyze the effects on operations, and to maintain accurate records.
- Has the ability to perform minor trouble shooting, prepare permits and work orders.
Other Qualifications
- Experience supervising shift employees a plus.
- Able to lead and interface effectively with others.
Physical Requirements
- Must possess a valid driver license in good standing in order to operate a company vehicle. Must have and maintain a driving record meeting the standards of the company.
- Must submit to company required pre-employment physical exam and drug screening.
- Must qualify to wear a respirator.
- General Industrial environment. Works around equipment such as turbines, generators, boilers, pumps, valves, etc. Thermal, chemical, mechanical, and electrical energy exposure in addition to working in hot temperatures.
- Able to handle up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted.
- Able to climb and tolerate heights and confined space.
- Able to tolerate temperature extremes.
- Able to wear PPE, accurately read and interpret gauges, and able to hear and understand audible alarms.
