The Electrical Valve Design department is a part of Hitachi Energy HVDC GI valves in Ludvika. We as a department are globally responsible for electrical design and requirements of semiconductors based HVDC and SVC valves. HVDC valves are used to convert AC to DC, and vice versa, and are essential for HVDC power transmissions. SVC valves are used in SVC systems, in order to support and stabilize AC systems. We also are responsible for designing digital optical instrument transducers.

The Electrical Valve Design department in Sweden consists of 45 employees including the managers. We also have electrical design departments in India and China, where we collaborate closely. Our department is not only responsible for tenders and project deliveries but also for productification of new valve solutions, life cycle management and provide technical support in upgrades & service projects.

This position is located in Ludvika or V??ster??s, Sweden.

How you'll make an impact

  • Develop project and tender design documents for HVDC and FACTS applications
  • Review customer specifications and Identify risks, deviations and opportunities
  • Perform calculations to assess electrical stress, thermal and losses
  • Define control and protection requirements for the valve
  • Perform semiconductor valve simulations and analyze the results
  • Define test requirements in accordance with both internal and external standards
  • Perform the failure investigation and ensure the safety in design
  • Lead design review meetings, technical forums and customer trainings
  • Be a team player and collaborate with other teams

Your background

  • You have either a Bachelor of Science or a Master of Science in Power Engineering, Electricals, Engineering Physics or equivalent
  • Previous work experience in similar fields is preferable
  • You have good knowledge of engineering tools such as Matlab, PSCAD and Mathcad
  • Experience aside, the most important aspect is your positive attitude and passion for electrical & electronics engineering
  • We are looking for you, who are an open-minded, curious team player and enjoys a role where you are challenged and can deepen your knowledge by solving problems
  • Strong communication skills and fluency in English is required, and Swedish can be advantageous.
