Job Description

As the Associate Trader, Rest of World (ROW), you will be a key member of our dynamic Environmental Markets team, supporting the growth of our international portfolio. Reporting to the Senior Portfolio Manager, ROW, you will play a vital role in executing trading strategies and managing risks across diverse international markets. You will focus on the liquid and emerging markets for Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs) outside of North America (NA), ensuring our portfolio is positioned for success in a rapidly evolving global landscape. Within NA, this role will support Renewable Natural Gas markets through trading Renewable Thermal Certificates (RTCs). In this role, you will work cross-functionally with Analysis, Trade Operations, Regulatory, and Legal teams to build the business in a manner consistent with our mission and business practices.
This is a full-time position ideally located in the New York area to best serve the respective markets. This position is open to candidates ideally based within a commutable distance to our New York, NY office, where you'll enjoy a flexible, hybrid working environment.

What You'll Do
Commercial Execution & Market Coverage
- Liaise with international brokers, traders, and principals daily to discuss ROW EAC markets and pricing.
- Execute buy and sell-side transactions for EACs to meet portfolio needs and achieve growth objectives.
- Identify and execute trading strategies that capitalize on market dynamics and emerging trends within ROW regions.
- Support the response to RFPs and identify new counterparty opportunities to expand our international reach.
- Support North America (NA) Renewable Natural Gas markets and trade Renewable Thermal Credits (RTCs).
Pricing & Portfolio Management Excellence
- Ensure the ROW portfolio is accurately valued at all times using mark-to-market valuations.
- Maintain the integrity of portfolio positions by ensuring transactions are integrated on a real-time basis.
- Contribute to daily portfolio management activities, including position tracking, receipts, deliveries, and audits for the international book.
- Identify and manage arbitrage opportunities across different ROW markets and instruments.
Strategic Opportunity Identification
- Collaborate with the Regulatory Affairs team to synthesize legislative or policy changes in ROW markets into actionable trading strategies.
- Work closely with analysts to develop and refine market models tailored to ROW regions to inform high-impact trading.
- Collect and analyze data on market fundamentals, liquidity, and forward outlooks to support senior leadership in strategic decision-making.
Requirements
About You
- Experience: 2+ years of work experience in a trading, brokerage, or adjacent role within environmental commodity markets, ideally with exposure to international EACs or carbon markets.
- Education: A 4-year degree in a quantitative field or equivalent work experience.
- Analytical Rigor: Proven excellence in building financial models and an innate ability to evaluate supply and demand dynamics.
- Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust with stakeholders across different cultures and time zones.

How We Define Success
Within 30 days:
- Market & System Immersion: Achieve fluency in international Energy Attribute Certificate (EAC) markets and master the primary internal systems used for portfolio management.
- Internal Networking: Establish productive working relationships with the Analysis, Trade Operations, Regulatory, and Legal teams.
- Operational Integration: Successfully manage basic deal entry and support the daily flow of bids and offers within the portfolio.
- Baseline Proficiency: Complete all required compliance and risk policy training to ensure a foundational understanding of trading boundaries.
Within 90 days:
- Technical Proficiency: Master pricing models and the delivery matrix for international transactions with minimal oversight.
- Market Translation: Effectively synthesize feedback from brokers and research into clear, actionable recommendations for the Senior Portfolio Manager.
- Portfolio Awareness: Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of current positions, key counterparties, and active trading strategies.
- Deal Structuring: Attain a deep understanding of Rest of World (ROW) and North American RNG and RTC deal structures and the specific steps required for successful trade implementation.
Within 6 months:
- Independent Execution: Manage commercial and wholesale assignments, receipts, and deliveries for the international book without daily supervision.
- Pipeline Development: Proactively build a pipeline of new wholesale relationships to expand the firm's international reach.
- Complex Structuring: Lead the design of complex renewable energy transactions that account for unique regional regulatory requirements.
- Risk Contribution: Actively contribute to risk management strategies tailored to the specific volatility of international ROW and NA markets.
Within 1 year:
- Autonomous Management: Fully own assigned ROW trading books, operating with total autonomy while strictly adhering to company risk policies.
- Strategic Value Creation: Generate measurable portfolio value by converting regulatory analysis into profitable, long-term trading strategies.
- Network Ownership: Maintain and grow a robust network of suppliers and buyers across diverse global geographies.
- Market Leadership: Act as a subject matter expert who interprets market dynamics to inform high-level trading decisions and drive long-term value.
Benefits
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation: The minimum and maximum salary for this position is $110,000 to $126,000 in the US. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, role requirements, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise.
