Burn is looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join the Manufacturing Engineering team based in Nairobi, Kenya. The role will be responsible for leading manufacturing engineering projects, supporting new product introductions, improving production processes, and driving operational efficiency across factory operations.

The ideal candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams including Production, Quality, Design Engineering, and NPD to ensure successful project execution, process optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role also involves leading a small team of Project Engineers and interns while ensuring timely delivery of project objectives and manufacturing excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Based in Factory Operations, reporting to the Manager of Engineering (Manufacturing Engineering team)
  • Responsible to lead a small team of Project Engineers and interns.
  • Leadership responsibilities include work planning, project and resource management, ensuring team adherence to project deadlines.
  • Collaboration with the NPD team to understand the product roadmap and allocate resource to each project accordingly.
  • Production of documentation (project deliverables) according to the BURN product development stage gate process. Examples include obtaining forecast figures for product families from the commercial team, performing product build studies to establish an assembly cycle time and work content, TAKT time calculations, line balancing, line design theory & layout, management of assembly line CAPEX spend, sourcing and tracking of assembly line items / tools / equipment, product packaging, manufacturing process flow definition.
  • Process mapping of departmental processes including creation of standard documentation (SOPs) and document templates
  • Collaboration with the Engineering Design team to develop jigs, fixtures, quality control (QC) gauges, and product assembly / process work instructions.
  • Collaboration with the tooling department to develop tooling set up sheets.
  • Collaboration with the production and quality departments to identify opportunities for continuous improvement, line balancing improvements, and headcount reduction.
  • Any other duties as assigned by management.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical and industrial engineering
  • Experience with simulation tools such as MATLAB, EAGLE, Proteus, etc.
  • 4+ years of experience in manufacturing, experience within sheet metal factories, and/or manual product assembly lines is preferred.
  • Conversant with CAD software, e.g., Solidworks, and AutoCAD.
  • Capable of reading engineering drawings and has a good understanding of tolerances and allowances.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Lean Six Sigma green belt holders are preferred.
  • PMP-certified candidates are preferred.
