Senior Associate
The Clean Fight
Company Overview
What They Do
The Clean Fight is a not-for-profit climate tech accelerator that focuses on helping growth-stage clean energy companies scale their operations specifically in New York State. Launched in 2020, it is powered by New Energy Nexus and serves as a flagship accelerator designed to identify and support top growth-stage climate tech companies from around the world looking to expand into New York (source: thecleanfight.com). The organization does not develop or manufacture renewable energy technology itself; rather, it operates as an accelerator program that provides essential support services to help these companies scale their solutions effectively. The Clean Fight's core mission is to design and run high-impact programs that help close the adoption and access gap for climate tech solutions in New York and beyond (source: thecleanfight.com).
Projects & Track Record
The Clean Fight has a strong track record of supporting its portfolio companies, which have collectively achieved significant measurable outcomes. Program alumni have secured approximately $800 million in follow-on funding and deployed over 5,000 projects, creating around 900 jobs (source: thecleanfight.com). The inaugural cohort, which graduated in April 2021, consisted of nine companies that received $900,000 in grant funding from The Clean Fight and raised over $100 million in follow-on funding, representing a remarkable 120X multiple of the grant funds administered (source: thecleanfight.com). Notably, two-thirds of these companies established or expanded their operations in New York State, demonstrating the accelerator's impact on local economic growth.
Recent Developments
In October 2022, The Clean Fight was named the program administrator of the $10 million Empire Technology Prize by NYSERDA, a significant milestone that highlights its role in advancing the decarbonization of tall buildings across New York State (source: thecleanfight.com). Additionally, in November 2022, the organization announced its third cohort of startups focused on energy storage innovation and manufacturing, supported by an award from the Department of Energy's Energy Program for Innovation Clusters (EPIC) (source: thecleanfight.com). This initiative aims to help New York State achieve its goal of 6 gigawatts of installed energy storage by 2030, contributing to the broader objective of 100 percent zero-emission electricity by 2040.
Working There
The Clean Fight operates as a relatively lean nonprofit organization, focusing on program management, business acceleration, and partnership facilitation rather than direct technology development. While specific departmental breakdowns are not detailed, the organization employs program managers, managing directors, and strategy staff (source: thecleanfight.com). The company culture is mission-driven and collaborative, emphasizing the importance of building an abundant world with access to clean energy for all. The Clean Fight aims to identify the most promising growth-stage clean energy startups to quickly scale in New York, ensuring that the solutions needed to address the climate crisis are adopted swiftly and affordably (source: thecleanfight.com).

The Clean Fight is a not-for-profit dedicated to rapidly scaling climate solutions in New York State and beyond. Many of the technologies needed to address the climate crisis already exist-our mission is to ensure they are adopted quickly, equitably, and at scale. We design and implement models of adoption that identify actionable strategies for accelerating decarbonization, while supporting startups with tailored resources, customer and capital partner connections, and non-dilutive funding to drive deployments.

We are a chapter of New Energy Nexus, a global nonprofit operating in the U.S., China, India, Southeast Asia, and East Africa. New Energy Nexus works toward a 100% clean energy economy for 100% of the population by supporting diverse entrepreneurs with funds, accelerators, and networks.
