Job Description

We are looking for a highly analytical, intellectually curious intern to join the Strategy team. You will work on projects spanning market entry analysis, investment evaluation, competitor intelligence, and strategic planning. A core expectation of this role is the ability to build rigorous, insight-driven financial models that directly inform BURN's capital allocation and go-to-market decisions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Modelling & Quantitative Analysis

  • Build robust financial models to support investment and market entry decisions across manufacturing and distribution-led entry modes
  • Model full-scale manufacturing entry scenarios to evaluate build-versus-distribute trade-offs
  • Build distribution-led entry models assessing unit and partner economics, route-to-market cost structures, and break-even thresholds ahead of capital commitment
  • Maintain and improve existing financial frameworks and trackers used by the strategy team

Market & Competitive Intelligence

  • Research and size addressable markets across Africa synthesising primary and secondary data sources
  • Conduct competitive landscape analyses covering product, pricing and distribution positioning

Strategic Planning & Decision Support

  • Support preparation of investment memoranda, board materials, and strategic planning documents
  • Contribute to market entry sequencing frameworks - structuring the analytical basis for when to enter distribution-first versus committing to manufacturing from the outset
  • Contribute to site-selection and evaluations for manufacturing entry, including lease economics, utility costs, and regulatory incentive modelling
  • Synthesise findings into concise, visually compelling presentations for senior leadership

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Interdepartmental coordination to gather data inputs and validate model assumptions
  • Participate in strategy reviews and project postmortems, contributing analytical perspective to team discussions

Qualifications

  • Recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business or a related quantitative field
  • Demonstrable proficiency in financial modelling in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with comfort working with incomplete or ambiguous data
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; ability to translate complex analysis into clear recommendations
  • High attention to detail and intellectual rigour

Qualified Female Candidates encouraged to Apply

BURN does not charge a fee at any stage of the recruitment process (application, interview, meeting, processing, training, or any other fees).
