Job Description
We are currently seeking a Site Service Technician II to join our fast-paced facilities team at our FuelCell manufacturing facility in Torrington, CT. The Site Service Technician II is responsible for performing routine and non-routine maintenance and repairs on conditioning equipment and processes. This role will also provide support for the building infrastructure and manufacturing operations. This position will report directly to the Facilities Supervisor and play a key role in our daily operational readiness, as well as in our continued operational efficiency and capacity evolution.
The Site Service Technician II plays a critical role in the Conditioning Department as production scales to meet growing customer demand. This position is responsible for supporting all conditioning operations while maintaining conditioning facility equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable performance. As the manufacturing plant increases output and modules are released from Final Assembly more frequently, the Technician helps minimize downtime, sustain equipment readiness, and keep production flowing smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Production
- Responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of conditioning equipment as well as equipment supporting building assets.
- Documents all predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance.
- Professionally performs all assigned tasks, following all work instructions and work assignments.
- Works to industry standard best practices, specifications, and regulatory codes where applicable, safely and efficiently.
- Performs regular inspections of plant, conditioning facility, and process safety systems.
- Perform predictive and emergent maintenance or repairs.
- Determines the most cost-effective repair/resolution to minimize downtime.
- Prepares status reports on plant conditions and completes work.
- Responsible for inventory of parts, documentation, and purchasing.
- Perform other duties as required.
Physical Requirements
- Must be willing to work over the normal schedule as necessary in support of the business
- Must be willing and able to work in both climate-controlled and non-climate-controlled environments, including outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Must participate in 24/7 emergency repair and on-call support rotation
- Must be able to frequently lift, push, pull, and move a minimum of 25 lbs and up to 100 lbs on a non-routine basis with assisted lifting devices
- Must be able to distinguish colors
- Must be able and willing to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hats, respirators, and other designated protective equipment.
- Routinely performs tasks requiring a full range of motion in both hands and arms, including circular, vertical, lateral, and overhead movements.
- Possess the ability to work at elevated heights in appropriate equipment and operate a forklift and man-lift.
- Work and physically move throughout a 170,000 sq. foot plant as well as outside grounds and the conditioning yard.
- Work in confined spaces
- Must be able to effectively read, write, and speak in English to ensure team communication and be able to follow written procedures.
- Must be willing to work as part of an integrated team and cross-functionally with other departments.
- Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid driver's license and be willing to travel locally for company business.
- Must be able to support Danbury operations on an infrequent and "as needed" basis.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED and Trade School or A.S. in Electro-Mechanical Technology program
- In lieu of A.S/Technical School, hands-on applicable experience (4 years minimum) in a manufacturing facility or powerplant environment will be considered.
- HVAC or Electrician certification experience (i.e. HVAC technician, electrician, electronics technician, field service technician, etc.)
- Power Plant operations and Maintenance experience
- Must exhibit the ability to communicate with the staff and co-workers in a professional manner
- Functional use of MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Basic Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, and Mechanical building systems
- Have a working knowledge of most hand tools and test equipment (e.g. process meter and thermocouple reader)
- Experience with electrical, plumbing, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- Repairing, rebuilding, maintaining, and installing conditioning facility and main building facility equipment
- Reading and interpreting layout plans, blueprints, operating or repair manuals, schematics, and drawings
- Experience with fresh air blowers and boilers
- Ability to troubleshoot complex systems
