What They Do

Netze BW GmbH is the largest distribution network operator in Baden-Württemberg, managing local infrastructure for electricity, gas, and water networks as well as public lighting, electric mobility charging infrastructure, telecommunications, and broadband services (source: linkedin.com). The company is part of the EnBW Group and focuses on operating and maintaining distribution networks rather than generating renewable energy. In addition to traditional network operations, Netze BW offers network-related services such as FTTX and backbone broadband projects as well as street lighting (source: careers.netze-bw.de). Technologically, the focus is on network reliability, digitalization, and modernization, with innovative projects like NETZinspect 2.0, the "Network Construction Site of the Future" concept, and the NETZlabor Allgäu, which aims for a self-healing network structure (source: enbw.com). Additionally, Netze BW is involved in hydrogen projects, such as the "NETZlabor H2-100" in Öhringen, which tests 100% hydrogen heating for administrative buildings (source: bayern-innovativ.de). Their customer base includes municipalities, industrial and commercial clients, as well as private end users who rely on a dependable network supply (source: careers.netze-bw.de).

Projects & Track Record

Netze BW has extensive experience in modernizing distribution networks. A recent example is the project to build a new switching station in Jagsthausen, involving an investment of around four million euros to replace an outdated switching station with a modern facility. Planning had been underway for several years before the official announcement in November 2025 (source: lokalmatador.de). In the hydrogen sector, Netze BW pioneered the "Hydrogen Island" concept in Öhringen and demonstrated the safe use of 100% hydrogen for building heating with the H2-100 project (source: bayern-innovativ.de). Furthermore, the company implements innovative digital inspection methods and network modernizations, such as NETZinspect 2.0 and the "Network Construction Site of the Future" (source: enbw.com). Geographically, Netze BW focuses on Baden-Württemberg with multiple locations in Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Biberach, Esslingen, Herrenberg, Kirchheim unter Teck, Korntal-Münchingen, and Sachsenheim (source: careers.netze-bw.de).

Recent Developments

In November 2025, Netze BW announced an investment in the new Jagsthausen switching station, a major infrastructure project worth around four million euros aimed at renewing the public electricity supply (source: lokalmatador.de). The EnBW Group invested a total of 4.5 billion euros in 2025 to expand and modernize its network structures, with Netze BW playing a central role in implementing pilot projects such as NETZinspect 2.0, the "Network Construction Site of the Future," and the NETZlabor Allgäu (source: enbw.com). Already in 2024, the hydrogen heating project H2-100 in Öhringen was introduced, testing the safe use of 100% hydrogen during the heating season and building on an earlier pilot project with up to 30% hydrogen content in the gas network (source: bayern-innovativ.de). Additionally, Netze BW is an active employer in 2025 and 2026, focusing on flexible work models, mentoring, and professional development (source: careers.netze-bw.de).
