Job Description
Located 20km off the north Kent coast in the Outer Thames Estuary, London Array has an installed capacity of 630 megawatts and generates enough clean electricity to power around 584,000 UK homes, while displacing around 900,000 tonnes of CO2 a year. The 175 wind turbines each have a rotor diameter of 120 metres and a capacity of 3.6 megawatts each. The wind farm is maintained and operated from the Port of Ramsgate. London Array is operated by RWE and owned by a consortium of four shareholders: RWE, Greencoat, Masdar & La Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ).
As General Manager, you will have full end-to-end accountability for the safety, environmental, operational and financial performance of the London Array wind farm. This is a true P&L leadership role with legal accountability, executive visibility, and the mandate to set benchmarks for offshore wind operations globally.
About the role
- Full accountability for London Array's performance, acting as both enterprise leader and operational authority as well as full responsibility for HSE, operational availability, asset integrity, and financial results
- Legal accountability for personnel safety, environmental protection, and infrastructure integrity
- Actively plan and manage the site budget including cost efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives, monitor and manage/mitigate operational & cost risks
- Lead the design and implementation of site-level operational strategy aligned with wider fleet goals in order to ensure the long-term asset integrity of the windfarms delivering on operational KPIs
- Oversee maintenance planning, vendor management, and lifecycle cost-performance optimisation in collaboration with Asset Optimisation and other relevant functions
- Lead, develop and inspire a high-performing operations team, ensuring a strong safety-first, performance-driven mindset
- Set the standard for HSE performance and safety culture through visible leadership, proactive risk management and ensure full compliance with safety, environmental and emergency preparedness requirements
- Cultivate relationships with stakeholders including suppliers, regulators, vendors, local communities and JV-partners
Job experience and requirements
- Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical discipline; additional business qualification advantageous
- Extensive senior leadership experience (minimum 10 years in line management) within renewable energy, power generation or comparable asset-intensive industries
- Proven track record of building, scaling and leading large, multidisciplinary high-performing teams with psychological safety in complex operational environments
- Strong commercial acumen with experience managing cost drivers, financial performance and value-based operational decision-making
- Deep expertise in asset operations, maintenance strategy, and lifecycle integrity management as well as working within joint ventures and complex stakeholder landscapes
- Recognised leader in HSE culture and regulatory compliance
- Excellent influencing and communication skills, capable of engaging senior stakeholders across corporate and industry networks, fluent in English
