Job Description

Recurrent Energy is one of the world's largest and most geographically diversified utility-scale solar and energy storage project development, ownership, and O&M platforms. It is a subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc. and partially owned by BlackRock. Recurrent Energy is focused on bringing low-cost clean energy and meaningful economic development to communities across the globe.

With a strong track record of originating, developing, financing, and building nearly 9 GWp of solar and 3 GWh of battery storage power plants across six continents, Recurrent Energy has established a leadership position in both solar and battery storage project development. With a total pipeline of 25 GWp in solar and 47 GWh in battery storage, of which 14 GW and 12 GWh respectively already have interconnections (as of January 31, 2023). In addition, Recurrent Energy's services business has 6 GW of projects under operations and maintenance contracts, either operational or contracted projects.

Position Summary

Responsible for managing the technical portion of the utility interconnection process for North America utility scale solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage power plants, Data Centers, and other clean energy facilities typically to the integrated transmission system. Responsibilities extend through multiple phases of the project development process, including siting, interconnection application, study process management, negotiation of interconnection agreements, grid integration, construction, and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the utility interconnection and grid integration process for new power plant projects
  • Perform economic transmission planning using PROMOD
  • Provide technical leadership for interconnection documents including interconnection studies, standards, and agreements
  • Manage external consultants performing interconnection modeling and studies including load flow studies of current and future utility system conditions
  • Become knowledgeable with relevant interconnection tariffs for key domestic and international utilities and system operators
  • Provide input to the early-stage development process regarding strategic interconnection siting and interconnection facilities
  • Provide technical leadership for high voltage design and installation process assuring compliance with interconnection and power purchase requirements
  • Manage consultants performing transmission and substation design activities
  • Collaborate with overall development team for preparation of permit submittals, utility proposals and other development activities
  • Collaborate with EPC firms to ensure reliable and cost-effective electrical design of contracted plants
  • Provide input to Regulatory Strategy team on interconnection and grid integration policies

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Knowledge of utility system operation, and interconnection process
  • Software knowledge - PSSe, PSLF, Powerworld, TARA
  • Detailed knowledge of power load flow modeling and results
  • Working knowledge of high voltage equipment
  • Ability to provide concise feedback on technical subjects to non-technical personnel
  • Ability to develop scopes of work for outside consultants and contractors

Education & Requirements

  • Proficiency in performing economic transmission planning using PROMOD
  • Prefer minimum of 5 years of high voltage electrical system experience, preferably with a utility, system operator or independent power producer (senior managers will be considered based on years of experience)
  • Experience with managing the transmission interconnection process for power plants (wind, solar or data centers)
  • A minimum of a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or similar engineering background
  • Professional Engineer (Electrical) license preferred
