Job Description

The AI Digital Solutions Consultant role contributes to the delivery of SP Energy Networks Digitalisation Strategy, with a particular focus on AI solutions that deliver measurable business value, increased workforce productivity, enhanced customer engagement, and operational efficiency across SPEN.

Working within the Centre of Excellence, the role will lead the evaluation and adoption of Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, Machine Learning, and Intelligent Automation technologies across SPEN.

Working closely with business process stakeholders, architects, data specialists and external providers, the post holder will translate business challenges into AI opportunities, develop proof-of-concepts, define AI solution architectures, and establish reusable frameworks, standards and best practices that accelerate adoption across the organisation.

What you'll be doing

  • Develop and support the delivery of SPEN's AI roadmap
  • Be accountable for defining and delivering AI solution to meet business requirements and identify, evaluate, and recommend suitable AI technologies including:
    • Generative AI
    • Large Language Models (LLMs)
    • Machine Learning platforms
    • Intelligent Automation
    • Agentic AI solutions
    • Predictive Analytics
  • Establish AI design patterns, standards, and governance models
  • Provide clear AI design direction to Delivery Teams. Improving the knowledge of Value Stream through mentoring, workshops, and other skill transfer methods
  • Taking strategic direction from the Architecture & Strategy team and defining detailed AI Solutions for the business. Assisting business in early scope definition, feasibility analysis, and business case development
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies and provide recommendations on their suitability
  • Lead AI proof-of-concept and pilot initiatives through to production deployment
  • Identify opportunities where AI can improve operational efficiency, safety, customer service, and asset management
  • Support AI/IT Strategy implementation through Application and Product Roadmaps
  • Maintain awareness of AI market trends and technology developments

What you'll bring

  • Significant experience of AI solution development in an organisation of similar scope and scale to SP Energy Networks, with previous Solutions Application Design experience in a global organisation preferred
  • Significant experience delivering AI, Data Analytics, Machine Learning, or Intelligent Automation solutions
  • Experience with AI technologies including Azure/AWS/OpenAI and Machine Learning
  • Understanding of LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG architectures, and agentic AI frameworks
  • Highly developed problem solving and delivery skills with the ability to analyse complex issues, recommend appropriate solutions and manage projects to delivery these
  • Experience working with data platforms, analytics, and AI model deployment
  • Understanding of AI governance, security, ethics, and regulatory considerations
  • Ability to identify and prioritise high-value AI opportunities
  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to distil technical concepts to business focussed audiences
  • Strong technology consulting and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience translating business problems into AI solutions
  • Ability to develop AI business cases and value realisation metrics

Minimum Criteria

  • 5 years plus of progressive experience in software engineering/enterprise architecture/technology leadership across multiple products, systems, and/or platforms
  • Demonstrable experience in AI, Advanced Analytics, Intelligent Automation or Data Science related roles
  • Experience designing and implementing AI-enabled business solutions
  • Strong understanding of enterprise AI architecture and governance
