Job Description

New Energy Nexus (NEX) is an international organization that supports clean energy entrepreneurs through funding, accelerators, and networks. We operate across the United States, China, India, Southeast Asia, and East Africa, with a vision of an abundant world powered by a 100% clean energy economy for 100% of the population in the shortest time possible.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Part-Time Regional Accountant to support financial operations across Singapore and Vietnam. This is a fully remote independent contractor engagement open to candidates based in the China, Philippines, Indonesia, or Malaysia.

The role is focused on high-quality financial execution, including maintaining accurate books in QuickBooks Online (QBO), mapping financial data prepared by local accounting partners, completing reconciliations and foreign currency translations, and preparing information for group-level reporting and consolidation.

You will report to the Financial Lead, who retains responsibility for strategic finance decisions, high-level compliance, and final audit sign-offs. This opportunity is best suited to an experienced accountant who enjoys hands-on work, multi-entity accounting, and independently managing recurring deliverables.

ENGAGEMENT, SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION

  • Engagement type: Independent contractor.
  • Location: Fully remote. Applicants must be based in the Philippines, Indonesia, or Malaysia. Some on-site work might be done for applicants based in Shanghai.
  • Rate: USD 15.00 per hour, based on actual approved working hours recorded through monthly timesheets.
  • Schedule: Flexible, with workload concentrated around month-end close, statutory filing deadlines, and annual audit requirements.
  • Collaboration hours: The contractor must be able to maintain reliable overlap with the Financial Lead during Singapore/Shanghai business hours, generally within 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Shanghai/Singapore time when work is scheduled.

Work Hours:

  • Standard months (-9 months/year; January - March & July - December): Approximately 40 to 80 hours per month. Capped at 80 hours/month.
  • Audit period (-3 months/year; April to June): Full-time dedicated capacity. 8 hours per workday capped at 160 hours/month.
  • Any hours exceeding the monthly ceiling require prior written approval from the Financial Lead.

Availability and focus requirement: This engagement requires the contractor's full professional attention during agreed working hours. Contractors may have other clients or projects, provided those commitments do not overlap with scheduled NEX work. This role is not intended to be performed as a side job alongside another full-time position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Accounting and Bookkeeping

  • Maintain full-charge bookkeeping for three Singapore entities in QuickBooks Online using established internal accounting processes.
  • Process journal entries, categorize transactions, and complete monthly bank, balance sheet, and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Perform quarterly foreign currency translations from SGD to USD for the designated entity using approved exchange rates.
  • Identify discrepancies, unusual balances, and data-quality issues, and resolve or escalate them promptly.

Vietnam Financial Data Management

  • Review monthly financial statements prepared by the local Vietnamese accounting partner.
  • Perform data-quality checks and map financial information to the established internal Chart of Accounts.
  • Complete VND-to-USD foreign currency translations using approved rates.
  • Upload accurate, mapped financial data into the relevant QuickBooks Online accounts.

Compliance and Audit Support

  • Gather financial data and prepare supporting documentation for Singapore statutory filings, including corporate tax filings, ACRA annual returns, and FATCA-related requirements.
  • Support the annual audit by preparing audit schedules, pulling QBO reports, completing reconciliations, and organizing requested documentation.
  • Maintain clear, complete, and audit-ready financial records in the company's document-management systems.

Reporting and Additional Support

  • Prepare and review quarterly financial information used to track the performance of Singapore investment vehicles.
  • Support the Financial Lead with accounting analysis, reporting, and other finance tasks as needed.

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least five (5) years of progressive accounting or bookkeeping experience.
  • Strong, hands-on expertise in QuickBooks Online. This is essential for the role.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including lookups, conditional formulas, multi-tab data mapping, and reconciliations.
  • Strong practical understanding of accounting principles under IFRS and/or GAAP.
  • Excellent written English skills for documentation, reporting, and remote collaboration.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage recurring deadlines and deliver accurate work without continuous oversight.
  • Comfort using digital workflow and collaboration tools as part of a fully remote team.
  • Highly methodical, organized, and attentive to detail, with strong problem-solving skills.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience supporting multiple legal entities or international organizations.
  • Experience with Singapore accounting, statutory reporting, or audit requirements.
  • Experience reviewing and mapping financial information prepared by external accounting firms.
  • Experience with foreign currency translation and group-level reporting.
  • Mandarin language skills, spoken and/or written.
