Size

Approximately 1,500 employees (source: ir.ameresco.com). Revenue figures for 2023 or later are not detailed in available data.

What They Do

Ameresco has transitioned from a focus on energy efficiency and conservation to a comprehensive energy infrastructure solutions provider. Their offerings include upgrades to aging infrastructure, smart energy efficiency implementations, and the development, construction, and operation of distributed energy resources such as renewable energy plants. This product-neutral and supplier-independent approach allows them to effectively address both energy supply and demand (source: ameresco.com). Their core technology focus encompasses energy efficiency, infrastructure upgrades, asset sustainability, and renewable energy solutions, including solar photovoltaic operations and maintenance, biogas-to-energy plants, and more (source: ir.ameresco.com). Target markets for Ameresco include federal, state, and local governments, utilities, data centers, educational and healthcare institutions, housing authorities, and commercial/industrial customers across North America and Europe (source: members.naesco.org).

Projects & Track Record

Ameresco has a notable track record of energy-saving projects across various sectors, including government, healthcare, education, and commercial clients. One of their pioneering projects was the establishment of one of the first green biogas-to-energy power plants in Massachusetts in 2001. They currently manage over 150 megawatts of solar facilities, showcasing their capabilities in renewable energy (source: ir.ameresco.com). Ongoing major projects include the £1 billion Bristol City Leap Partnership in the UK, a city-wide decarbonization initiative that is projected to create over 1,000 local jobs and generate £61 million in social value within its first five years (source: ir.ameresco.com). Their geographic presence spans the US, Canada, the UK, and broader Europe, supported by over 50 offices (source: ameresco.com).

Recent Developments

In the last two years, Ameresco has focused on operational scaling rather than major new contracts or acquisitions explicitly dated post-2023. A December 2, 2025 company page update reaffirmed its NYSE:AMRC status and portfolio expansion into net-zero decarbonization (source: ameresco.com). Earlier acquisitions, such as Plug Smart, have integrated key staff into leadership roles, enhancing their Midwest presence and capabilities in smart building solutions (source: wbjournal.com). While no new mergers or funding rounds have been specified from 2024-2025, Ameresco has received historical recognitions, including rankings in the Boston Business Journal and Forbes 100 Best Small Companies (source: ir.ameresco.com).
