Company Overview
Amogy Inc.
HeadquartersBrooklyn, NY, United States
Founded2020
SizeApproximately 60 employees and over $220 million raised cumulatively by 2024 (source: amogy.co, esgtoday.com).
What They Do
Amogy's core technology focuses on ammonia cracking, a patented process that decomposes liquid ammonia (NH₃) into hydrogen and nitrogen without direct combustion. This innovative approach enables zero-carbon power for fuel cells or engines, boasting up to 35% higher reforming efficiency, 70% more efficient catalysts, and over 80% higher power density compared to traditional alternatives (source: amogy.co, amogy.co). Their flagship products include the AMMDrive™ System, which consists of modular and scalable ammonia-to-electrical power units designed for heavy-duty sectors, and high-conversion ammonia cracking catalysts that convert ammonia on-site for various applications.
Target markets for Amogy encompass hard-to-abate sectors that generate 60% of global emissions, specifically maritime shipping, heavy-duty ground transport, and stationary power generation. Their customer segments include OEMs, power integrators, industrial facilities, and vessel operators, with a focus on providing solutions that offer three times the energy density of compressed hydrogen and fast refueling capabilities similar to diesel (source: amogy.co, esgtoday.com). Amogy differentiates itself through its mature technology, demonstrated at scales from 5 kW to 100 kW, and a modular design that ensures grid-independent resilience and cost savings via existing ammonia infrastructure.
Projects & Track Record
Amogy has achieved several notable milestones, including the world's first ammonia-powered carbon-free drone flight (5 kW) in July 2021 and a 100 kW John Deere tractor demonstration in May 2022, which provided hours of primary power per refueling. In January 2023, they unveiled the first ammonia-powered semi-truck, and in September 2024, they completed the NH₃ Kraken tugboat retrofit, marking it as the world's first carbon-free ammonia-powered maritime vessel (source: amogy.co, stonybrook.edu). Ongoing projects include a partnership with Pohang, South Korea, for a distributed power generation system targeting commercial operations by 2028-2029, and a collaboration with GreenHarvest for a pilot ammonia-to-power installation in Taiwan set for late 2026 to early 2027.
Recent Developments
In September 2024, Amogy successfully demonstrated the NH₃ Kraken, the world's first carbon-free ammonia-powered tugboat, which has advanced their maritime partnerships for newbuilds and retrofits (source: amogy.co, esgtoday.com). The company raised $56 million in December 2024, followed by an additional $23 million in July 2025, contributing to their total funding exceeding $220 million (source: amogy.co). January 2025 marked the launch of operations in Korea, and the Houston manufacturing facility is set to open in July 2025, alongside the commercialization of catalysts. Additionally, Amogy secured a partnership with Kinetics for ammonia-powered Powerships™ targeting AI data centers (source: amogy.co).
Working There
Amogy offers a variety of roles across engineering disciplines, including chemical, electrical, mechanical, and simulation positions, with a strong emphasis on R&D for ammonia cracking, reformers, catalysts, and system integration. Their departments span technology development, manufacturing, and business development, with active hiring locations in Brooklyn, NY, and Houston, TX, as well as international operations in Norway, Singapore, and Korea (source: rescale.com, esd.ny.gov). The company culture promotes rapid innovation and growth, with a mission to align with climate goals and support from the Brooklyn Navy Yard ecosystem. Specific benefits are not detailed, but performance-based incentives and cloud tools for engineering productivity are provided (source: amogy.co, esd.ny.gov).

Job Summary
We are looking for a highly technical Principal Mechanical Engineer with deep subject matter expertise in high-temperature mechanical system design using metal-alloy components, to execute product development engineering tasks from concept, through detailed engineering and testing, into series production. In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to design, analyze, integrate, and test reactor and separation technologies for Amogy's next-generation power solutions.
This is an individual contributor role that requires hands-on experience independently setting up, executing, troubleshooting, and interpreting FEA models for complex structural and thermo-mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a hands-on individual contributor responsible for independently building, running, troubleshooting, and interpreting structural and thermo-mechanical FEA models.
- Lead structural and thermo-mechanical analysis strategy for mechanical structures and assemblies used in ammonia cracking and separation systems, guiding design optimization through FEA-led decision making.
- Guide mechanical design maturity from concept through launch by defining analysis plans, evaluating design margins, supporting material selection, informing DFM/DFA tradeoffs, and verifying detailed engineering designs through structural and thermal FEA.
- Partner with mechanical design, CFD, manufacturing, process, and testing teams to translate operating conditions, loads, boundary conditions, and test data into validated structural and thermal analysis models.
- Establish and maintain best practices for structural and thermal FEA, including modeling assumptions, meshing standards, material models, load-case definition, design allowables, documentation, and peer review process.
- Define and maintain structural integrity requirements for high-temperature devices, including allowable stresses, deformation limits, fatigue life, creep performance, pressure-boundary requirements, and thermal cycling durability.
- Present analysis findings and recommendations to peers and management, translating FEA results into clear technical guidance for design and program decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
- MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or a related field, with advanced technical depth in structural mechanics, heat transfer, high-temperature materials, pressure equipment, or coupled thermo-mechanical analysis.
- 5+ years of experience serving as a technical lead or analysis authority for complex structural or thermo-mechanical analysis programs, including developing technical approaches, mentoring engineers, and driving implementation of design solutions.
- Experience analyzing or designing hardware exposed to ammonia, hydrogen, syngas, combustion products, or other reactive/high-temperature environments, including consideration of material compatibility, thermal cycling, pressure containment, and degradation mechanisms.
- Familiarity with coupled CFD-to-FEA or multiphysics workflows used to translate flow, pressure, and thermal results into structural and thermo-mechanical analysis inputs.
- Experience developing analysis standards, templates, review processes, automation tools, or reusable workflows that improve consistency, quality, and execution speed across different programs.
