Job Description

Ulteig is seeking a Lead Engineer who acts as a fully competent engineer and performs work involving the application of intense and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices. Uses advanced techniques, theory, precepts, and practices to complete complex project features. Provides expert consultation for the design, development, and implementation of technical plans and systems. Performs calculations using engineering formulas and skills. Supervises less experienced engineers and/or technical support and develops a solid team.

Candidates must have experience working with Departments of Transportation, County Governments, and/or Municipal Governments. General knowledge of the practices and policies of the governing agencies is also required.

  • Perform assignments designed to develop professional knowledge and abilities.
  • Apply advanced techniques, theories, procedures, and practices to complete engineering tasks within the discipline.
  • Develop plans, specifications, and observation reports to see that these items are complete, accurate, and in accordance with sound engineering practice.
  • Assists in the preparation of design calculations.
  • Efficiently practices engineering as it pertains to design selection.
  • Recommends alterations to development and designs to improve quality.
  • Works closely with engineering technicians and experienced engineers.
  • May work in the office or in the field.
  • Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Is technically involved with the resolution of design problems, including performing field investigations/observations.
  • Performs detailed design work.
  • Checks design computations done by others.
  • Coordinates general but specific design aspects of a project.
  • Performs engineering design and evaluations within the specialty.
  • May devise new approaches and solutions to problems encountered.
  • Prepares reports and correspondence concerning the direction of assigned projects.
  • Participates in marketing, sales, and business development activities within an assigned market.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
  • Resolves highly complex technical issues and conducts advanced research.
  • Participates in contract bidding and administration and observes project action on site.
  • May participate in or lead team development/recruiting activities.
  • May provide consultation on complex projects.
  • Acts as a technical leader and resource for other engineers within the discipline.
  • Provides excellent client service.
  • Actively communicates with clients to ensure we are meeting their needs.
  • Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  • Participates in community and professional development activities.

What We Expect from You

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering; a master's degree preferred.
  • PE license required.
  • A minimum of 7 years' engineering experience is preferred.
  • Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and AutoCAD or MicroStation is preferred.
  • Demonstrates openness to innovation by embracing and applying evolving technology and AI tools to enhance workflows, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S.

Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $111,200 - $150,400
Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your job-specific skills, education, training, job location, number of years of experience related to this role and comparison to other employees already in this role.
