Harelbeke, Belgium

Founded

2012

Approximately 150 employees (source: linkedin.com). The annual revenue is estimated to be between 10 million and 50 million dollars (source: smappee.com).

What They Do

Smappee specializes in smart energy management, with a primary focus on monitoring and optimizing electricity consumption, complemented by solar energy integration and electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions (source: smappee.com). The company's technology focuses on three interconnected areas: real-time analysis of energy consumption at the device level, optimization of self-sufficiency through solar energy management and battery storage integration, and intelligent infrastructure for EV charging (source: smappee.com). The flagship product is the Smappee energy monitor, launched in June of a reference year for 199 euros, capable of identifying individual energy consumption of devices (source: smappee.com). This system allows users to monitor energy flows and direct excess solar energy to major consumers and battery storage systems (source: smappee.com). Smappee serves a wide range of markets, including residential consumers, installers, and small to medium-sized enterprises, achieving global distribution in Europe, the United States, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand (source: smappee.com).

Projects & Track Record

Smappee has sold a significant number of devices, with monthly sales figures ranging from 1,000 to 10,000 in the European, North American, and Asia-Pacific markets (source: smappee.com). The previous venture of founder Grosjean, EnergyICT, illustrates the impact of Smappee, where the company monitored 10,000 energy meters at Tesco, the largest supermarket chain in the UK, reducing energy consumption by 20% (source: smappee.com). Smappee has also formed strategic partnerships with companies such as Watt Footprint and Chargefox, demonstrating the integration of ecosystems in smart energy management and EV charging (source: smappee.com).

Recent Developments

In October 2024, Smappee announced a significant leadership change, appointing Kurt Vandeputte as CEO while founder Stefan Grosjean took on the role of Smappee Group CEO (source: smappee.com). The company also received the prestigious Red Dot: Best of the Best Award for Design Concept for its EV line, underscoring the company's recognition as an innovator in smart energy solutions (source: smappee.com). Smappee continues to advance its technology with innovations such as Cascade Overload Protection and integration with smart chargers, positioning itself as a developer of next-generation energy management tools (source: smappee.com).

Working at Smappee

The company culture at Smappee reflects the philosophy of founder Grosjean, focusing on challenging established energy companies and empowering consumers (source: smappee.com). The company emphasizes integration with the local community and consciously operates from West Flanders, collaborating with regional entrepreneurs and SMEs (source: smappee.com). The organization has its headquarters in Harelbeke, Belgium, and regional offices in Australia, the United States, the Middle East, the United Kingdom, and South Africa, where local support, sales, and installation coordination take place (source: smappee.com).

At Smappee, we believe energy should be smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable. Our technology helps businesses and individuals understand and optimise their energy consumption while making electric mobility easier.

As our solutions become increasingly connected, software and integrations play an important role in the experience of our installers and customers. To strengthen our Customer Service team at HQ, we're looking for a Technical Support Specialist - Software & Integrations.

You don't need to know everything about energy management or EV charging from day one. What we're looking for is someone who understands how connected systems work, enjoys troubleshooting and likes helping people solve technical problems.

Requirements

You will be part of our Customer Service team and provide technical support to certified installers and partners via phone, email and our ticketing system.

Your focus will gradually develop towards questions related to software, connectivity, energy management and integrations, while you will also support our broader AC charging portfolio.

More specifically, you will:

  • Provide technical support to installers and partners during the installation, configuration and use of Smappee solutions.
  • Troubleshoot software, connectivity and integration issues, guiding installers towards effective and practical solutions.
  • Investigate and analyse connected systems, networks, devices, configurations, logs and error messages to identify root causes.
  • Support Energy Management System applications and integrations with external platforms, including smart-home and building-management technologies.
  • Resolve technical cases independently where possible and escalate complex issues with the appropriate technical context and information.
  • Build and maintain strong knowledge of AC charging solutions, Smappee's software and integrations, while documenting solutions and best practices to effectively handle day-to-day technical support questions.
  • Collaborate closely with Customer Service, Sales Engineers and R&D to identify recurring issues, improve knowledge sharing and continuously enhance products and support processes.

What do you bring?

We are mainly looking for technical aptitude and problem-solving ability rather than one specific degree or career path.

You could have a background in IT, software, electronics, networking, technical support, IoT or a related field.

Ideally:

  • You have a good understanding of software and connectivity and are comfortable figuring out how different systems communicate with each other.
  • Concepts such as IP networks, APIs, protocols, integrations or connected devices are familiar to you - or you're eager and able to learn them quickly.
  • You enjoy troubleshooting: you ask the right questions, work through a problem logically and don't stop at the first possible explanation.
  • You enjoy helping customers and can translate technical information into clear, practical instructions.
  • You are comfortable communicating by phone as well as through email and tickets.
  • You can communicate professionally in Dutch, French and English.
  • Experience in technical support, application support, IoT, energy management, EV charging or system integrations is an advantage, but not a requirement.
  • You are curious and motivated to develop into a specialist in smart energy and connected charging solutions.

Most importantly, you don't need to tick every technical box already. If you have a solid software or IT foundation and enjoy understanding how connected technologies work, we'll help you build the product and energy knowledge.

Why this role?

This is more than a traditional service desk role. You'll combine customer interaction with hands-on technical troubleshooting and gradually build expertise in software, integrations and smart energy management.

You'll join a technical environment where hardware, software, energy and mobility come together - giving you plenty of opportunities to learn and grow.

Benefits

At Smappee we believe in a modern and dynamic work environment where you can be yourself and truly inspire people to contribute to a better planet. What can you expect exactly?

  • An inspiring office environment at cleantech hub Snowball: a place where companies with a heart for sustainable innovation can get inspired and grow.
  • Personal growth with multiple career and personal development opportunities in an organization that is constantly evolving.
  • A chance to participate in team activities, companywide events and monthly drinks with your colleagues at the HQ.
  • Remuneration according to experience, completed with extra-legal benefits such as meal vouchers, eco vouchers, health insurance, group insurance and holidays supplemented with ADV days.
  • A flex benefits plan with optional benefits such as bicycle leasing, multimedia, home office supplies, additional holidays, refund of individual pension savings and warrants.
  • A job where you can truly contribute to a better planet.
