Headquarters

London, United Kingdom

Founded

2021

Size

What They Do

Cero Generation specializes in the development, construction, ownership, and operation of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS) across Europe. The company focuses exclusively on solar and battery storage projects rather than a broader renewable energy mix, positioning itself as a specialist in these technologies (source: cerogeneration.com). Founded as a vehicle for Macquarie’s Green Investment Group to consolidate and scale its European solar activities, Cero Generation manages a substantial development portfolio that initially included over 8 GW across more than 150 projects in multiple European countries (source: greeninvestmentgroup.com). The company’s business model covers the full project lifecycle, from early-stage feasibility and permitting through financing, construction, commissioning, and long-term asset management, which differentiates it in the market (source: cbinsights.com). Its customer base includes corporate offtakers, industrial partners, lenders, developers, and utility stakeholders, reflecting a broad and sophisticated partnership network (source: cerogeneration.com).

Projects & Track Record

Cero Generation has established a strong operational track record with several major solar and battery storage projects across Europe. In Italy, the 70 MW Pontinia agrivoltaic solar project successfully went live, alongside the 48 MWp Castrum solar PV project in Montalto di Castro, which entered operation in June 2025 (source: cerogeneration.com). In Greece, the 100 MW Delfini solar PV project in Prosotsani Drama reached commercial operation in August 2024, marking a significant milestone for the company in the region (source: cerogeneration.com). The UK saw the launch of Larks Green, the first transmission-connected co-located solar PV and battery storage facility connected to the national grid, demonstrating Cero’s pioneering approach to hybrid renewable energy assets (source: cerogeneration.com). The company’s development pipeline includes the Bumble Bee project near West Burton, which reached financial close in February 2026 and combines 78 MWp of solar PV with a 120 MW battery energy storage system, highlighting its focus on integrated solar-plus-storage solutions (source: cerogeneration.com, energyglobal.com). Additionally, the 115 MW Bramley project in the UK is currently under construction, financed through the Gemini portfolio (source: finance.yahoo.com). In Spain, Cero secured financial close on a 244.7 MWp portfolio of projects in Palencia, expected to generate approximately 480 GWh annually, enough to power around 150,000 households (source: finance.yahoo.com). The company’s portfolio emphasizes co-located solar-plus-storage and agrivoltaic projects, reflecting a strategic preference for grid-supportive, higher-value renewable energy assets (source: cerogeneration.com).

Recent Developments

Between 2024 and early 2026, Cero Generation has announced several key milestones and expansions. In August 2024, the company declared the commercial operation of its 100 MW Delfini solar project in Greece, followed by the November 2024 launch of Larks Green, the UK’s first transmission-connected co-located solar and battery storage facility (source: cerogeneration.com). June 2025 saw the Castrum project in Italy go live, adding 48 MWp of solar capacity to its portfolio (source: cerogeneration.com). In September 2025, Cero secured a financing package worth approximately £200 million for a portfolio of UK solar and battery storage assets, underscoring strong investor confidence (source: cerogeneration.com). The company reached financial close on the 198 MW Bumble Bee hybrid renewable energy project at West Burton in February 2026, combining solar PV and battery storage at scale (source: cerogeneration.com). Additionally, Cero expanded its ownership by acquiring full control of Nara Solar through the purchase of Univergy Solar’s 50% stake, strengthening its position in the European renewables market (source: cerogeneration.com). Earlier financing rounds included support for a five-project Spanish portfolio in Palencia, further consolidating its footprint in Southern Europe (source: finance.yahoo.com).

Working There

Cero Generation employs approximately 150 people, with public data indicating a range between 51 and 200 employees, reflecting a small-to-mid-sized company structure (source: linkedin.com, pitchbook.com). The company’s workforce spans multiple disciplines including project development, engineering, commercial contracting, finance, legal, investment, asset management, and operations support, indicating a diverse range of roles focused on the full lifecycle of solar and battery storage projects (source: cbinsights.com). Offices are located in London, Madrid, and Hamburg, supporting its pan-European operations (source: linkedin.com). The company culture emphasizes European collaboration, hands-on project execution, and commercialization, with a strong focus on deal execution, grid and permitting work, project finance, and construction delivery rather than pure strategy or research (source: greeninvestmentgroup.com, cerogeneration.com). Cero highlights its highly experienced team and close collaboration with local partners to deliver industrial, commercial, and technical expertise across its projects, creating a dynamic and execution-focused work environment (source: greeninvestmentgroup.com).
