The Phone Business Manager - Retail owns the performance of Sun King's Retail PayGo Phone business at regional level. The role manages the network of Sun King Shops and qualified Partner Stores across the region and supervises the PSEs (Phone Sales executive) staffing them; driving store productivity, sales quality, repayment performance, and merchandising standards. It is the execution layer of the retail channel: converting onboarded outlets into consistently productive, portfolio-healthy selling points, and making the interface with the region's agent-channel management work without duplication or conflict.

What you would be expected to do

  • Store Network Performance - own regional sales delivery across all Sun King Shops and Partner Stores; track daily sales per store; diagnose and fix unproductive outlets fast; recommend activation, remediation, or exit for stores that fail productivity or portfolio thresholds, using the Partner Store Assessment framework for every new outlet before it trades.
  • PSE Management & Development - recruit, onboard, and supervise PSEs per Sun King HR guidelines; ensure Litmos certification within 2 weeks of onboarding; run weekly store visits and structured coaching (pitch, PayGo value proposition, financing language, platform use); manage rosters, coverage, and PSE performance reviews; maintain optimum headcount.
  • Sales Quality & Collections - own origination quality at store level: customer screening, documentation, approved financing terms; monitor FPD and store-level PAR30 daily; execute follow-up procedures on arrears with the call centre and field; escalate outlet-level risk patterns (mis-selling, cluster delinquency, fraud indicators) to the Phone Business Manager - Retail with evidence.
  • Inventory & Merchandising - manage stock across stores: requisition, secure custody, reconciliation, and inter-store balancing, with replenishment gated on store portfolio quality; enforce brand merchandising, POS display, pricing, and contractual compliance in every outlet; zero tolerance on stock variance.
  • Partner Relationships & Reporting - maintain strong working relationships with partner store owners, resolving operational issues before they become commercial ones; coordinate with regional agent-channel management so retail and agent activity complement rather than cannibalise; submit accurate weekly reports on deadline; feed field intelligence; rival retail financing plays, pricing pressure, customer objections; up the channel.

You might be a strong candidate if you

  • Hold an HND/BSc in a business-related field with 4+ years' experience in retail sales, telco/device retail, or branch/multi-store operations.
  • Have managed in-store sales staff across multiple locations.
  • Have PAYG, device financing, or installment-credit exposure (solar an advantage, not a requirement).
  • Know the assigned region's retail corridors and trade clusters.
  • Strong retail floor management and multi-site supervision; relationship management with store owners.
  • Digital literacy - CRM, Looker, stock tools; coaching and communication strength; disciplined with data.
  • Excellent evaluation skills with proficiency in using data to drive resolutions (Excel, CRM tools).
  • Deep knowledge of collections processes and credit management in a low-income customer segment.
  • Willingness to travel across the region.
