About Maine Community Solar
Company Overview
Maine Community Solar
HeadquartersBangor, ME, United States
FoundedN/A
SizeEmployee count likely under 10, with no documented revenue or ownership structure (source: mainecommunitysolar.org).
What They Do
Maine Community Solar primarily focuses on community solar subscription services under Maine's Net Energy Billing (NEB) framework. Rather than developing or owning solar projects, it assists customers in subscribing to off-site solar arrays from various developers, providing kWh credits that can offset 10-15% of their utility bills. This service is particularly aimed at residential and small business customers of Central Maine Power and Versant Power, allowing them to benefit from solar energy without the need for direct investment in solar infrastructure (source: mainecommunitysolar.org). The company differentiates itself through local expertise and a pressure-free enrollment process, contrasting with larger national competitors that engage in the actual construction of solar farms (source: nexamp.com). However, it does not engage in other renewable technologies such as wind or energy storage, focusing solely on solar energy solutions.
Projects & Track Record
Maine Community Solar does not have any documented completed or ongoing projects, as it operates as an enrollment intermediary rather than a developer. The actual solar projects in Bangor are developed by other companies, such as UGE International, which is currently working on a 2.9 MW ground-mount solar farm in Bangor, valued at $9.2 million (source: ugei.com). UGE has a significant presence in Maine, with 18 MW under development as of 2023, including multiple projects across the state. Maine's NEB program has seen substantial growth, reaching a total pipeline of approximately 440 MW AC by 2025, making it the second-largest community solar program in the U.S. (source: poweradvisoryllc.com).
Recent Developments
In the last two years, there have been no specific announcements, contracts, or funding related to Maine Community Solar. However, the broader context of Maine's solar landscape includes significant initiatives such as the $62 million EPA "Solar for All" grant aimed at improving low-income solar access (source: nexamp.com). Additionally, discussions around the NEB program have intensified, with industry leaders advocating for its continuation amid potential repeal threats, highlighting the deployment of over 1 GW of solar capacity in the state (source: ampion.net).
Working There
Working at Maine Community Solar appears to offer limited opportunities, primarily in customer-facing roles such as sales and customer service. The company is likely a small operation, with testimonials indicating a focus on responsive support for enrollment processes (source: mainecommunitysolar.org). There are no documented benefits or detailed cultural aspects beyond a commitment to honest communication and customer care. Job seekers interested in renewable energy roles may find more substantial opportunities with actual solar developers in Maine's growing NEB market (source: ugei.com).
