International Senior Legal Counsel

Are you a commercially minded lawyer who enjoys working close to the business in an international environment? We are looking for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join AFRY Group Legal.

In this role, you will support AFRY's global operations with a particular focus on AFRY Management Consulting. You will act as a trusted adviser to senior leaders and business teams, combining legal expertise with commercial understanding and a pragmatic approach.

You will work across jurisdictions, legal systems and industries, helping the business navigate complex legal and commercial matters.

The position is based at AFRY's offices in Solna, Sweden, with the possibility of hybrid working depending on business needs and agreement.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting AFRY Management Consulting

• Advise on client engagements, commercial agreements, partnerships and transaction-related matters.
• Support consultants and management in identifying and managing legal and commercial risks.
• Act as a trusted legal partner in a dynamic advisory business operating at the forefront of the energy transition and industrial transformation.

Commercial Contracts

• Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including advisory, consultancy and engineering-related contracts.
• Balance legal risk with commercial objectives in complex and high-value engagements.

Legal Advice & Dispute Management

• Provide day-to-day legal support across AFRY's international operations.
• Assist with commercial disputes and other complex legal matters when required.

AI & Legal Innovation

• Contribute to the development and use of AI and legal technology tools to improve legal service delivery.

Training & Knowledge Management

• Develop and maintain contract templates, playbooks and legal guidance materials.
• Deliver training on commercial contracts, risk management and related legal topics.

Qualifications

We are looking for an experienced lawyer who combines strong legal expertise with sound commercial judgement and the confidence to operate independently in an international business environment. You are commercially minded, pragmatic and confident in handling complex legal matters. You enjoy working close to the business and understand how to balance legal considerations with commercial objectives. You communicate clearly, build strong relationships and thrive in an international environment where priorities and challenges vary from day to day.

You should have:

• A Swedish or other equivalent European law degree
• At least seven years of relevant legal experience, including substantial experience in an international environment
• Extensive experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts
• Experience of working across multiple jurisdictions, legal systems and contract types
• Strong commercial understanding and an ability to assess legal issues in the context of wider business objectives
• The ability to work independently and engage confidently and with integrity with senior decision-makers
• A genuine interest in AI and legal technology, preferably combined with some practical experience of using such tools
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken. German language skills are an advantage

Experience in one or more of the following areas is considered an advantage:

• M&A and transactions.
• Corporate finance or financial-sector related matters.
• Engineering, consultancy or professional services contracts.
• Commercial dispute management.
