Job description
Across Opoura, we bring together specialized engineering and technology capabilities to solve challenges across renewable energy development and operations. Our Technology organization includes grid analytics, software, and product development, with further expertise across Opoura in power engineering, SCADA, control, and OT.
NovoGrid by Opoura is our Dublin-based grid analytics team, with strong roots in power system modelling and grid connection studies. Here, you can have real influence in a small specialist team while being part of a much broader technical environment across Opoura.
As our new Power Systems Engineer, you will work hands-on with electricity network analysis, power-flow modelling, and grid studies, helping customers understand network constraints and make better-informed decisions about new projects and grid connections.
Your role
You will join a Dublin engineering team of two Power Systems Engineers and a Principal Engineer, Oisín Doherty, who you will report to. An Account Manager is also based in the Dublin office, creating a close connection between engineering, customers, and commercial priorities.
Your day-to-day work will take you into network models, power flows, constraints, and the assumptions behind the analysis. You might be developing or validating a model, investigating the cause of a network constraint, discussing an engineering question with a colleague, or translating your findings into a clear technical output for a customer.
You will own analysis within your area of experience, with the Principal Engineer providing sparring and review on more complex technical and customer questions. As you build knowledge of our methods and projects, there is room to take on greater responsibility for technical reviews and knowledge sharing within the team.
As part of Opoura's Technology organization, you will also work with specialists beyond the Dublin team. This includes colleagues across product and technology development and relevant technical teams elsewhere in Opoura, including Power Engineering within Digital Services.
Your main responsibilities
- Deliver power system studies, including power-flow modelling, network planning, grid connection assessments, and analysis of network constraints.
- Develop, validate, and maintain electrical network models, ensuring technically sound assumptions, inputs, and results.
- Translate complex analysis into clear technical findings, reports, and recommendations for customers and colleagues.
- Work with the Principal Engineer and wider team to resolve technical questions and maintain quality across engineering deliverables.
- Use Python and other relevant tools to improve modelling methods, automation, and repeatability where it adds value.
To be successful in this position, you
- Enjoy getting into the detail of complex engineering problems and understanding what is happening in a network.
- Apply sound engineering judgment and are comfortable questioning assumptions when the analysis points in another direction.
- Work independently on familiar technical problems while involving others when another perspective will strengthen the outcome.
- Take accuracy seriously and follow your analysis through to a useful and understandable conclusion.
- Communicate technical topics clearly and enjoy sharing perspectives and knowledge with colleagues.
Your background
You have already gained meaningful hands-on experience with electricity networks and power system analysis, perhaps from a consultancy, utility, transmission or distribution network operator, renewable energy company, or a similar engineering environment.
A specific number of years is less important than having a solid technical foundation and being ready to build on it with broader responsibility.
We imagine that you:
- Have 2+ years of relevant experience
- Understand power system fundamentals and transmission or distribution networks.
- Have experience with Python or another relevant programming language, or an interest in applying coding to engineering analysis.
- Have an educational background in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Communicate confidently in English, both in writing and in technical discussions.
Experience with grid connections, network planning, renewable energy projects, utilities, or system operators is valuable. Experience specifically from Ireland or Great Britain is an advantage, but not a requirement if your power systems experience is transferable.
You must be eligible to work in Ireland.

What They Do
SCADA International, now operating under the name Opoura, specializes in software and systems for SCADA, control, and energy management for power and infrastructure assets. The company offers a wide range of solutions, spanning hardware and software to installation, commissioning, consulting, and value-adding services around monitoring and data collection systems (SCADA) (source: lasso.dk). Their technology collects live production data from distributed assets and transforms it into decision-supporting information that optimizes performance and reduces costs (source: stateofgreen.com). A key part of their business is ETRM software, including systems for Energi Danmark, which automate energy trading and risk management with integration to power exchanges and Energinet (source: opoura.com). Opoura focuses on connecting, controlling, and commercializing energy assets across the value chain and now includes several digital and software companies under the same brand (source: windtech-international.com).
Projects & Track Record
A notable project is the implementation of the ETRM system for Energi Danmark, announced in April 2022, which simplifies and optimizes electricity trading through automated processes and direct integration with power exchanges and transmission system operators (source: opoura.com, ritzau.dk). Another important milestone is Deutsche Windtechnik, which has added more than 6,000 wind turbines to the Opoura platform, illustrating the large scale of asset management the group handles after the rebranding (source: opoura.com). SCADA International supports operational reliability for thousands of wind and solar farms as well as water supply companies globally (source: ritzau.dk). Their geographic reach includes Denmark, Germany, Poland, Spain, Ukraine, Romania, the United Kingdom, and the USA, reflecting both direct presence and customer base (source: ritzau.dk).
Recent Developments
In January 2023, Magnesium Capital and Morgan Stanley Investment Management completed the acquisition of the majority of shares in SCADA Holding A/S, bringing the group under new private equity ownership (source: ritzau.dk). That same month, SCADA International became a member of the industry association Intelligent Energi, highlighting the company’s position within energy software and services in Denmark (source: ritzau.dk). In December 2024, the company announced its rebranding to Opoura, consolidating several acquired companies under one name and signaling a focus on optimizing asset performance (source: ritzau.dk, windtech-international.com). In 2022, the company won Energi Danmark’s ETRM contract, marking an expansion from traditional SCADA monitoring to advanced trading and risk management software (source: ritzau.dk).
Working There
SCADA International offers career opportunities in SCADA engineering, software development, systems engineering, consulting, hardware solutions, installation, commissioning, monitoring, and maintenance (source: stateofgreen.com). The company has divisions covering software, hardware, and commercial ETRM delivery, opening opportunities for developers, system integrators, data specialists, and energy consultants (source: opoura.com). SCADA International is certified according to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, demonstrating formalized management systems in quality, environment, and occupational health and safety (source: stateofgreen.com).
