Job description
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for a Manager, Growth Engineering to join our Growth team on a full-time basis. Reporting to the Director, Development, you will establish and lead an integrated Growth Engineering function responsible for providing the technical foundation for the evaluation and development of new energy projects.
This is a hands-on leadership role at the intersection of engineering, development and commercial strategy. You'll lead a team of engineering professionals and translate customer requirements and commercial opportunities into technically sound, executable project concepts across power generation, energy storage, transmission and other energy infrastructure.
You'll bring greater structure, consistency and speed to early-stage technical evaluation by applying fit-for-purpose engineering appropriate to the maturity of each opportunity. You'll provide the technical insight needed to make informed project development and investment decisions.
Working closely with Development and teams across the business, you'll help shape project opportunities from the front end and ensure engineering, constructability, operability and execution considerations are embedded early in the development process.
This position is based out of our Downtown Calgary Head Office.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Establish and lead an integrated Growth Engineering function supporting the evaluation and development of new growth opportunities.
- Lead and develop a team of engineering professionals supporting early-stage projects across multiple technologies and markets.
- Partner with Development to rapidly assess customer requirements, technical feasibility, project concepts, infrastructure needs, risks and key development assumptions.
- Translate commercial opportunities into fit-for-purpose technical solutions and provide clear recommendations on technical options, constraints and trade-offs.
- Lead conceptual design, scope development, technical specifications, basis-of-design assumptions, development schedules and Class 4/5 cost estimates to support project evaluation and investment decisions.
- Establish fit-for-purpose engineering, estimating and technical assurance processes that increase project definition and confidence as opportunities mature.
- Work across Development, Operations and internal subject matter experts to identify site and infrastructure constraints and ensure constructability, operability, maintainability and execution considerations are incorporated early.
- Direct external engineering consultants, EPC contractors, OEMs, utilities, transmission providers and other technical partners, ensuring their work is aligned with project objectives.
- Provide technical leadership and recommendations to Development and senior stakeholders as opportunities progress from early-stage development toward detailed engineering and execution.
ABOUT YOU

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation, or eligibility for registration, considered an asset
- At least 10 years of progressive engineering experience within power generation, energy infrastructure, or large-scale industrial projects, including meaningful experience in project development, front-end engineering or conceptual design
- Previous experience leading, mentoring or developing engineering professionals and coordinating technical resources across multiple priorities
- Strong understanding of early-stage project development, including concept development, technical feasibility, scope definition, cost estimating and risk assessment
- Experience working across multiple energy technologies, such as thermal generation, renewables, energy storage or other emerging technologies, considered an asset
- Commercial mindset with the ability to connect engineering decisions to project economics, customer requirements and broader business objectives
- Strong cross-functional leadership skills with the ability to bring together engineering, development, commercial, regulatory and other subject matter experts
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex technical considerations into clear recommendations for non-technical and senior audiences
- A practical, solutions-oriented mindset and comfort operating in a fast-paced development environment where opportunities and priorities can evolve quickly
