Summary of Role

As part of the Equity and Transaction Support team, the Financial Modeller will play a key role in preparing, building and optimizing financial models for Offshore projects. They will be central to the structuring, negotiating and assessment of projects as we bring them through the development cycle and prepare the investment case for consideration by the Mainstream Risk and Investment Committee and Board of Directors. This role requires the management of the whole modelling process on behalf of Mainstream as it relates to all project development, bidding, financing, and valuation activities within the Offshore business. The role will provide first-hand exposure to project finance, private equity, investment banking and M&A activities, and will suit an ambitious candidate keen to establish a strong foundation within financial modelling before progressing to take more responsibility.

This will be a challenging position, offering the opportunity to work in a dynamic and entrepreneurial organisation, in a growing market, and in a fast-paced industry.

The Offshore modeller will sit in the Equity and Transaction Support team based in Dublin with travel between offices and in support of the Offshore projects on an ‘as-required’ basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain highly complex financial models for Offshore wind projects including:
    • Developing and running equity and lender-case scenarios
    • Project finance debt-sizing and optimisation
    • Valuation of renewable energy assets
    • Scenario and sensitivity analysis
    • General analysis of cash flows
    • Ability to audit/sense check a financial model quickly and succinctly to ensure outputs are reasonable in order to make quick and informed commercial decisions.
    • Ability to challenge those providing inputs to ensure an accurate representation of the risks and rewards is prepared and presented.
  • Take responsibility for managing the model input / assumptions process
  • Take responsibility for structural integrity and functionality of models including accounting, tax and regulatory requirements of various markets though liaison with technical and finance colleagues.
  • Support the acquisition, investment, tender, bidding and financial close activities of multi-billion € projects.
  • Contribute towards commercial negotiations and provide critical analysis of assumptions included within such models, highlighting potential efficiencies / risk areas on acquisitions, investments, disposals & associated funding activities.
  • Support and lead commercial aspects of bid delivery.
  • Lead engagement with lenders and equity, constantly seeking to achieve best in market terms.
  • Support commercial aspects of Risk and Investment Committee papers.
  • Work internally as part of multi-functional teams to assess markets and projects as required. Clear financial analysis and communication of results.

Qualifications

  • Relevant financial qualification with at least 2-3 years’ experience of financial modelling
  • Renewable Energy or wider energy industry experience is desirable.
  • Experience in VBA is preferred.
  • Must be self-motivated with an ability to work unsupervised, but must be able to integrate into a diversified multi-functional team as required.
  • Commercial awareness and ability to highlight potential efficiencies / areas of concern within models that require further analysis or support.
  • Excellent understanding of Financial Statements
  • Ability to analyse qualitative & quantitative information for decision making.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficient with MS Excel and MS Office Suite
  • Proven ability in building and maintaining strong working relationships. Fluency in written and verbal English
