Position Overview

The Controller will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, compliance, timely execution, and maintenance of the financial records of the business including complete ownership of the P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow of the company and its subsidiaries. This individual will also help guide business and financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, enforcing and recommending implementation of policies and procedures to manage working capital and accounting processes and procedures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Strategic planning/partnership, monthly forecasting, oversight of all accounting (general ledger, AP, AR, payroll and related tax filings/remittance, bank reconciliation, cash management), ERP system oversight, and monthly/quarterly/annual close
  • Review financial data, prepare budgets, and work as the right hand to the CFO in day-to-day business operations
  • Work closely with the executive and management teams to ensure efficient, reliable, and compliant financial processes are in place and maintained to enable the execution of our day-to-day operations and long-term initiatives
  • Take ownership of key reporting functions as well as helping to ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to and best practices are implemented
  • Audit and develop financial controls and procedures to ensure compliance with financial reporting, management, and cost control objectives
  • Track and manage incentive and commission payments
  • Oversee bi-monthly payroll for staff including new hires and terminations, including calculating wages, withholding taxes, and issuing paychecks or direct deposits
  • Manage the documentation and preparation of federal and state taxes each fiscal year; Oversee compliance with local filing requirements for taxation laws and statutory obligations as they arise
  • Responsible for the hiring, training, and performance management of the department staff
  • Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems and implementation thereof
  • Maintain organized and secure records of financial transactions and supporting documentation in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Assist with external audits by providing financial information, supporting documentation, and explanations of accounting practices and policies
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, processes, and controls to increase efficiency and effectiveness
  • Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information and compliance with regulations and company policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 5+ years' experience in an Accounting or Finance role
  • Understanding and experience with financial reporting standards (such as GAAP)
  • Experience in managing financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling
  • Experience with metrics like Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR), Churn Rate, Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC), and Lifetime Value (LTV) is essential.
  • Knowledge of Regulatory Compliance: Familiarity with relevant regulatory compliance requirements
  • Familiarity with accounting software and financial management tools like QuickBooks, NetSuite, etc.
  • Deep expertise in MS excel
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both financial and non-financial stakeholders
  • Adaptability and Growth Mindset and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or equivalent certification
  • Experience supporting a fast paced and dynamic startup environment, ideally within a high growth SaaS company
  • Maintain strong proficiency in MS Office and Paycor
  • Ability to work in Boulder office three days per week minimum.

Compensation: $130,000

Negotiable based on qualifications and experience. Ascend highly values our employees and often pays above industry average.
