Your function

EGI wishes to reinforce its team working on Power System Development and Economics in the context of deep integration of renewable energy sources, Energy and Balancing Market Integration. To achieve this, we are looking for experienced professionals with various types of expertise in power system development and economics.

These experts will take part in projects focusing on the global implementation of the energy transition and the planning of renewable energy source (RES) based power systems of the future.

Typical activities involve (but are not limited to):

  • Power system and energy market modelling
    • Using software tools like Plexos and Antares, you will optimize energy systems.
    • Energy scenario analysis and quantification for net-zero energy ecosystems.
    • Power system flexibility assessment, country flexibility mapping and tracking.
    • Sector coupling solutions for integrated system planning: transportation (E-mobility), heating/cooling, industry and synthetic fuels (Hydrogen, P2X).
  • Investment analysis and techno-economic assessments
    • Generation and energy storage expansion planning for systems with high shares of renewables: PPA design, strategic renewable deployment.
    • Interconnectors business case assessment and Cost-Benefit-Analysis (CBA).
    • Grid development for renewable integration: CBA for transmission expansion, renewable locational optimisation, energy storage and P2X technology sizing and location, grid enhancing technologies.
  • Advanced analytics and toolchain development
    • Dealing with large models and complex data sets such as nodal pricing, flow-based market coupling, dispatch optimisation, bidding zone reconfiguration assessment, and price forecasting.
    • Steering the development of automation and analysis tools.
  • Project acquisition & delivery
    • Driving new leads and being responsible for managing or contributing to the development of project proposals.
    • Manage and deliver projects, ensuring timelines, budgets and client expectations.
    • Actively engage with stakeholders, demonstrating a solid understanding of their needs and delivering convincing results.
    • Lead or participate in project teams, facilitating effective communication and fostering a collaborative working environment.

We are looking for different types of expertise with either focus more on market modelling or on data analytics. Please do not hesitate to apply, even if you do not match the competence profile 1:1 in all points. Your responsibilities will be decided based on your competencies and development goals and will be discussed during your interviews.

Your profile

  • Master's degree in engineering, applied economics, mathematics or physics;
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in power system and energy market modelling and optimisation – with software tools like Plexos and Antares;
  • Experience with data analytics and modelling languages. Mastering languages like Python and R is an asset;
  • Ability to translate complex data into key strategic insights and valuable actions;
  • Experience in delivering results on time and quality as project manager/work package lead, presenting results to clients and managing internal resources;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients;
  • Highly analytical, dedicated to high-quality and accurate work;
  • Excellent organisational skills with an ability to multi-task;
  • Enthusiastic about learning, proactive and solution-oriented;
  • Fluent in English;
  • Knowledge of German, Dutch and/or French is an asset;

Brussels – Mobility required: 30% worldwide (willingness to travel abroad for international assignments depending on the business development or project needs).
