Today, companies are constantly urged to drastically reduce their carbon footprint. By trading in a wide variety of renewable energy products, STX enables businesses to achieve this goal. In doing so, we contribute to a more transparent environmental commodities market and, therefore, a greener world. We're looking for a Quantitative Analyst to join our business and the extremely dynamic market we operate in, and to embark on a journey with us towards a better tomorrow.

"At STX, Research and Analytics are indispensable in navigating the intricate world of environmental commodities. By deciphering trends, assessing risks, and uncovering relationships in fragmented markets, we play a vital role in ensuring that money flows into the right projects. Our expertise enables profitable trades that not only contribute to our bottom line but also drive positive change". Paola Rodriguez Masiu, Head of Research and Analytics

Since 2005, STX has been a leader in many of the individual environmental commodity markets and today we are one of the most experienced and recognized players in the space. Through this footprint and experience, we have unrivalled insights into what drives these environmental commodity markets, providing a significant competitive edge over new entrants.

The Quantitative Analyst will play a crucial role in STX by deepening the culture of data-driven decision-making within the organization. We are looking for a pro-active, communicatively strong, inquisitive, and independent quant, who can take our advanced analytics team to the next level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain cutting-edge quantitative tools and improve existing models to keep expanding STX's quant analytics.
  • Identify the various variables influencing the pricing of environmental commodities (correlation/causation), translate these analyses into a view, and communicate where the opportunities and risk lie.
  • Influence risk management by working hand in hand with all trading desks globally.
  • Assist trading desks with complex calculations and identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.
  • Research novel algorithms and models, such as sentiment analysis, to derivate and build an ecosystem of trading signals.

Key Requirements

  • Master's or PhD in Mathematics, Financial Engineering, Econometrics, Statistics, or other quantitative discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience working in a trading environment or with exposure to the energy sector.
  • Strong programming skills (Python, SQL, GIT).
  • Proven experience with forecasting, back-testing, and model fitting.
  • Successful track record in producing original market insights/trading signals.
  • Solid understanding of regression/classification models.
  • Experience with sentiment analysis using LSA, and LLM.
  • An innate ability to identify key trends in large datasets.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Desire to understand the underlying reality and unique complexities of the environmental commodities trading business.
