RRC is seeking a talented Senior Substation Engineer, PE to help us build the future of U.S. energy production from our Tualatin, OR office. RRC is a multi-disciplinary engineering firm that specializes in energy projects, particularly renewable energy, throughout the United States. Essential Responsibilities

  • Work with team to design substation protection schemes and develop layout of high voltage substation equipment
  • Manage engineering design for substation projects including quality, schedule, and budget
  • Act as the engineer of record for responsible projects
  • Interface with internal and external team members such as substation engineers, solar engineers, study engineers, project coordinators, electrical designers, drafters, and project managers
  • Take ownership of projects to meet and exceed client expectations
  • Perform and review AC & DC, voltage drop, conduit fill, illumination, lightning, insulation coordination, and other studies
  • Prepare and review equipment specifications and procurement documents
  • Review manufacturer equipment drawings
  • Perform QA/QC of substation design packages
  • Develop recommendations for equipment and material per requirements and safety guidelines
  • Assist with the preparation of project proposals

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years’ experience in HV substation design (outdoor and indoor)
  • Experience as a project engineer or lead engineer
  • Electrical Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Switchgear and open-air substation experience required
  • Strong understanding of applicable industry codes and standards including the IEEE, NESC, and NEC
  • Ability to organize, schedule, prioritize, and multi-task in a dynamic environment
  • Power transformer specification design
  • Substation equipment specification experience
  • Support/Lead development of standards, optimizations, and processes
  • Must be client centered with focus on high quality and innovation to make a difference
  • Work, collaborate, and build a team centered culture supporting the training for the team at all levels
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and make recommendations
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Preferred Additional Experience

  • Experience in renewable energy, distribution, or MV power systems
  • Power Transformer experience
  • Insulation coordination and TrOV experience
  • GIS switchgear experience
  • Understanding of distribution and transmission connected renewable projects
  • IEC 61850 experience and aspirations
