Job Description
We are looking for smart, motivated undergraduates (juniors, seniors), graduate students, or early alumni to join our team in Boulder, CO for a term, semester, or summer as interns. Ascend's solutions provide analytics for power traders, risk analysts, resource managers, developers, and financiers that support critical power supply decisions from operating strategies over the next hour, to hedging and budgeting decisions over the next five years, to long-term investment and resource planning decisions over the next thirty years. Ascend is looking for talented college graduates for internships or intern-to-hire opportunities (for those who have already graduated) on its teams in two broad areas:
- Front-end Development with tech stack focusing on React
- Back-end Development with tech stack focusing on Python
Data Science and data engineering specializations are also considered.
Typical assignments may include
- Assisting in software design and development tasks.
- Writing code and develop software applications using programming languages.
- Testing and debugging software applications to ensure quality and functionality.
- Documenting software design, code changes, and development processes.
- Conducting research on emerging technologies and industry trends.
- Collaborating with team members to meet project deadlines and objectives.
- Communicating project status, progress, and challenges to team members and stakeholders.
- Following established software development processes and coding standards.
- Participating in team meetings and brainstorming sessions.
Required Qualifications
- Strong quantitative background (such as a degree in computer science, economics, physics, engineering, math, or energy systems)
- Strong academic performance (GPA 3.4 or higher)
- Desire and willingness to relocate to Boulder, CO for the semester or summer
- Foundational skills in at least one language – React or Python
- Preference for some programming and statistical academic experience or coursework
- Passion for creating software solutions for the energy transition, and alignment with Ascend values
- Great teamwork skills; our projects are all collaborative and we highly value communication
- A high degree of ownership and commitment
Compensation: $25 - $30 / hour
All interns are paid on an hourly basis during their time with us. Ascend highly values our interns and often pays above the industry average.
All our present internships are intended to be on site in Boulder, CO.
