The BayWa r.e. UK team focuses on wind project development, acquisition and construction, both in the UK and Ireland. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Land Manager to lead and manage land origination efforts for utility-scale renewable energy projects (solar, wind, and energy storage). The ideal candidate will be responsible for identifying, securing, and managing land agreements necessary for the development, construction, and operation of renewable energy projects across the UK.
You will have the ability to manage complex projects and have strong general administrative management (covering tasks, programme, budget, meetings and stakeholders). The successful candidate will take on a central role in supporting and further developing our business.
What you will do
- Land Origination & Negotiation: Working closely with internal developers and origination leads, support the identification of suitable land for renewable energy projects, directly engage with landowners, and advisors, and lead the negotiation of key commercial terms for future option and lease contracts, ultimately to ensure appropriate site controls are in place for our investments.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with landowners, and their advisors, to facilitate strong relationship building and project success.
- Due Diligence: Work with internal GIS team in conducting land feasibility assessments, supporting legal drafting and commercial negotiations.
- Project Coordination: Collaborate with internal teams, including development, engineering, and finance, to align land origination efforts with project timelines and business goals.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks related to land use, commercial parameters, and contractual obligations.
- Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of land negotiations, agreements, and undertake budget control at all appropriate stages.
- Team Management & Coordination: Contribute regularly to internal team strategy, reporting, and meetings, in addition to motivating external landowners and their advisors to achieve target programmes/project milestones. Collaborate with legal, engineering, development, and grid teams throughout the project lifecycle.
What you’ll need to succeed
- Significant previous experience within a similar role in the UK renewable energy market;
- Proven land negotiation and/or origination skills, particularly in renewable energy generation or infrastructure development.
- A good understanding of the energy sector, with particular emphasis on wind, solar and battery storage technologies.
- Sound knowledge of planning, permitting and delivery of grid connections for onshore renewables projects.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills - ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with diverse stakeholders including landowners, communities and professional advisors.
- Innovative and driven to make things happen without instruction.
- Hands-on approach and ability to work under pressure.
- The ability and willingness to regularly travel across the UK is an essential requirement.
- Proven ability to work and communicate with remote colleagues.
- Computer literacy (MS Office) is essential and familiarity with cloud-based project management software would be useful.
- Full driver’s license.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
