Job Description
Lead state-wide mentoring to grow our future workforce. Deliver training, enhance compliance, and embed values-driven technical leadership.
- Provide leadership and mentoring for our inhouse apprentice program.
- Statewide role based in either the north, northwest or south.
- Annual salary review and area allowance depending on location.
Salary range $135,459 – $157,027 plus super

About the role
To put it simply… you’ll use your technical, trade, and leadership skills to help shape the future workforce of Hydro Tasmania. In this hands-on, state-wide role, you’ll coach and mentor apprentices, trainees, and senior trade staff to uplift capability, culture, and compliance across our operational teams.
✓ Deliver mentoring and on-site coaching to apprentices and tradespeople.
✓ Run the Apprentice Program and lead Operator Training School activities.
✓ Champion and embed our Asset Management System (AMS) in local teams.
✓ Support cultural and behavioural change to align with Hydro Tasmania values.
✓ Lead safety conversations, share lessons, and ensure consistent messaging.

Who are you?
You’re a skilled and experienced technical leader with a genuine passion for developing people, particularly apprentices and trainees. Known for your proactive and collaborative approach, you thrive in complex operational environments where your ability to lead, coach, and mentor others makes a real impact.
With hands-on experience in a senior technical or leadership role you also hold a Trade or Operational Qualification, a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment or a Diploma along with a current Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) card or are willingness to obtain one is advantageous.
Your strengths lie in clear communication, practical mentoring, and a strong understanding of power generation/production or maintenance practices. You bring a growth mindset and a firm commitment to safety and continuous improvement, consistently driving change while delivering development solutions that are practical and people-focused
