EPC Management jobs in renewable energy
EPC Management Jobs in Renewable Energy
EPC management is the delivery of a power project under a single engineering, procurement, and construction contract, in which one contractor designs the plant, buys the equipment, and builds it to a fixed price, date, and performance guarantee. In renewables the model dominates utility-scale solar and storage, and it delivers capacity with comparatively small crews: in the United States, utility-scale projects made up about 82% of new solar capacity in 2024, yet employed 58,351 people, a third of all solar installation jobs.
What EPC managers do
On the contractor's side, an EPC project manager holds the whole risk chain. A design change to the pile layout alters the steel order, which moves the delivery date, which moves the crane booking, and every link carries liquidated damages (pre-agreed penalties for delay or underperformance) if it slips. The job is to keep engineering, purchasing, and site work in one schedule, manage subcontractors, and hand over a plant that passes its performance tests. Contracts often follow the FIDIC Silver Book, the international template for turnkey EPC work, so contract literacy matters as much as technical depth.
On the owner's side, developers and utilities hire EPC managers to supervise the contractor instead: checking designs, tracking progress payments, and fighting over change orders. The distinction matters for a career. Contractor roles are closer to construction and site management and pay for speed; owner roles sit nearer to development and asset ownership. Offshore wind rarely uses a single EPC wrap at all, since developers split turbines, foundations, and cables into separate packages and manage the interfaces themselves.
Employers hiring EPC managers
The United States accounts for much of the current demand. SOLV Energy, headquartered in San Diego, and Signal Energy are among the largest builders of utility-scale solar in the country, and both hire project managers, civil superintendents, and construction safety managers in volume. Ulteig supplies engineering to the same projects, while Clearway Energy Group and Strata Clean Energy recruit for both owner-side and construction roles.
In Europe, GOLDBECK SOLAR builds ground-mounted solar parks across the continent, and the wind developer UKA, based near Dresden, recruits project managers and site managers for its German projects. Turbine makers Nordex and Vestas manage installation contracts for their own machines, and Voltalia runs an in-house construction arm that also works for third parties. Hamburg, Berlin, and Madrid lead the European openings.
Skills that command a premium
Most advertised titles are variations of project management: project manager, senior project manager, project engineer, and site manager. What separates a strong EPC candidate is the ability to close out a project, not just build it. Experience with mechanical completion, punch lists, and commissioning through to the grid operator's energisation tests is scarcer than general site experience, and battery storage adds fire codes and augmentation schedules to the list.
European demand depends on how fast the pipeline recovers. SolarPower Europe counted a record 865,000 solar jobs in the EU in 2024, expects a 5% contraction in 2025 as rooftop installations weaken, and projects more than 916,000 by 2029.
