Snowy Hydro Limited

Présentation de l'entreprise

Snowy Hydro Limited

NSW, Australie

1949

Snowy Hydro is a dynamic, integrated energy business that has been providing on-demand, reliable energy to Australia for generations. Snowy Hydro owns and operates a powerful combination of generation assets, including the mighty Snowy Mountains Scheme, gas and diesel plants, and contracted wind and solar energy. We also provide electricity and gas to about 1.5 million retail customers through our retail brands Red Energy and Lumo Energy.

A full-time, permanent position exists for a Senior Environmental Advisor (Hydro) to join our close-knit Water, Environment and Lands team based in Cooma, NSW.

About the position

As a Senior Environmental Advisor, your two core purposes are to provide expert environmental advice to the business and to maintain the regulatory performance of Snowy Hydro's operations.

This is a unique opportunity to act as a true strategic partner to the business. By delivering authoritative technical advice and driving strong engagement with both internal customers and external stakeholders (such as the EPA and the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service), you will directly extend our commercial capabilities while safeguarding our license to operate.

Balancing deep analytical work with real-world, on-the-ground action, you will be the go-to expert supporting our operations and maintenance teams, top operational projects and ensuring our ISO-certified Environmental Management System (EMS) remains robust including actively identifying and implementing opportunities for ongoing improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with on-the-ground teams across operations, maintenance, and engineering to conduct risk assessments, solve problems on your feet, and manage defects or incidents safely and efficiently.
  • Integrate environmental requirements and provide authoritative advice regarding risks, impacts, and effective controls for major operational overhauls and capital projects throughout their lifecycle.
  • Foster exceptional relationships with internal customers and external regulators, clearly communicating obligations and achieving mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Contribute to a rolling 3-year environmental strategy, driving improvements across our environmental systems and processes.
  • Maintain and sustain our certified Environmental Management System (EMS), procedures, and assurance plans. Deliver training and awareness to promote a proactive environmental culture.
  • Manage compliance obligations in alignment with legislation, licenses, and management plans.

About the location

Join us in Cooma, NSW, the vibrant heart of the Snowy Mountains region, where you can progress your career while enjoying an exceptional regional lifestyle. This is a hybrid role, offering flexible working arrangements with a minimum 3 days in the office. Although based in Cooma, the position is highly dynamic and requires regular travel, often weekly or fortnightly, to locations across our hydro asset network for essential face-to-face collaboration with on-the-ground teams.

To ensure a smooth transition, we are pleased to offer comprehensive relocation support for your move to Cooma, including assistance with moving your personal household belongings and temporary transit housing options while you find somewhere to make home.

About you

You will be joining a passionate, highly capable, and collaborative environmental team based in Cooma. We pride ourselves on strong technical execution and deep data integrity, and we are looking for an advisor who can seamlessly bridge the gap between our technical systems and our people.

To thrive in our culture, you will be a natural relationship-builder and an engaging communicator. We love driving internal engagement-whether that's running "lunch and learn" sessions, sharing environmental good-news stories, or acting as a proactive champion for environmental management across the wider Snowy Hydro business.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in an environmental advisory or environmental management role, ideally within Mining, Utilities or Heavy Industry.
  • A Degree or postgraduate qualification in Environmental Science, Engineering, Natural Resource Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent).
  • Exceptional customer service skills with a proven ability to develop effective working relationships across all levels of a workforce. You possess highly developed influencing, communication, and negotiation skills, with an appetite for driving internal engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering best-practice environmental management outcomes and improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory frameworks and experience managing environmental approval processes. You have highly developed skills in environmental impact assessment, auditing, incident investigation, and report writing.
  • Strong data analysis and reporting skills, with the ability to manage complex data sets and closely align environmental performance with broader business objectives (good commercial understanding).
