Job Description
British Solar Renewables creates smart energy systems for a net zero carbon future. British Solar Renewables develops (BSR Energy), builds (BSR EPC), and maintains (BSR O&M) utility-scale solar, wind and storage projects in the UK and internationally. Having developed and built in excess of 700MWp BSR are a major contributor to the UK Renewable Energy Sector.
About this role
Reporting into the Regional Operations Manager and Commissioning Engineer, the Senior Service Technician is responsible for the day to day on site activities for the sites that are assigned to them. You will be working closely with their regional support team, the wider Asset Operations team and other stakeholders to deliver the O&M services safely and effectively. A key function of the Asset Operations team is to ensure that operational solar PV and battery storage projects achieve their required performance, availability and safety objectives.
This role includes responding to planned and reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis, resolution and reporting. This role requires participation in an weekend on-call rota.
What you will be doing
- Working in accordance with BSR Health & Safety Policy, BSR Risk Assessments, BSR Safe Systems of Work, BSR HV & LV Safety Rules and all required BSR HR policies.
- Planned preventative maintenance of electrical, auxiliary, communications, mechanical, structural, and security systems as well as supporting ground and land management plans.
- Reactive maintenance interventions, fault diagnosis and fault repair of electrical, auxiliary, communications, mechanical, structural, and security systems as well as ground and land management works.
- Inspections, information gathering and record keeping using safety culture templates and other resources.
- Creating, updating and completion of management system cases and work orders.
- Completing weekly timesheets
- Manage site and vehicle inventory.
- Working in accordance with BSR site access and security control procedures and policies.
- Adherence to and supporting the further development of the BSR Quality Management System, knowledge articles, how to guides and safe systems of work.
- Supervision and site inductions of sub-contractors, suppliers, graziers, landowners, technical advisors and visitors to sites.
- Participation in self-lead, site based and classroom-based training. On occasion this could be overseas.
- Travel on occasion to other regional areas or sites as required for the fulfilment of O&M contract duties. Including overnight stays when applicable.
What skills you will have
- Technical experience as a qualified electrician (BS7671: latest version) or electrical engineer.
- Inspection and test experience and qualifications (C&G 2391-52 or EAL 4337/8) or equivalent. Or working towards.
- Solar PV installation and maintenance experience (including utility scale renewables projects and G59/3, G99) and qualifications (C&G 2372 or C&G 2399)
- Experience and training with central PV and BESS inverter/PCS is highly desirable (i.e. SMA, Power Electronics, Gamesa, Sungrow)
- Experience and training with HV switchgear and transformers. HV AP or SAP training and qualification up to 33kV (C&G, OP40/42, S12 or equivalent). An independent authorisation assessment will be made with all HV qualifications.
- Ability to work closely with and take instruction from internal and external HV control engineers.
- Health and Safety awareness (e.g. ECS, IOSH, SSSTS, SMSTS) including valid first aid ticket.
- Self-driven with experience of working remotely and alone without direct supervision. While still being in a team.
- Enjoy walking and working outside in all weathers.
- Attention to detail and can-do attitude. Ability to manage time and prioritise your work correctly and efficiently. It could require an early start or late finish to resolve a fault / issue.
- Technical knowledge - ability to solve problems quickly, efficiently and safely and express solutions verbally and on paper.
- Action focused - Can quickly find common ground and solve problems for the good of all and is seen as a team player and co-operative.
- Ability to assist O&M maintenance operatives, other O&M areas and teams within BSR to resolve maintenance faults, issues and problems.
- Composure - does not become defensive or irritated when times are tough and is a settling influence in a crisis.
- Enthusiasm for continuing development and learning.
- Clean UK Driving License.
