Transgrid is seeking an experienced and strategic Major Projects Planning Manager (Network Planning) to lead our technical engagement with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) and provide expert leadership in the planning and delivery of NSW's future transmission system. This is a critical, high-impact role within our Strategic Network Development team.

About the Role

  • Lead Transgrid's technical input to AEMO's major national planning processes: Integrated System Plan (ISP), Electricity Statement of Opportunities (ESOO), NSCAS, and Power System Frequency and Risk Reviews (FRR/GPSRR/PSFRR).
  • Head the Major Projects Planning Team, providing power system studies, technical analysis, and strategic advice that shape major infrastructure developments.
  • Represent the Network Planning function in industry forums, stakeholder meetings, and collaborative planning discussions across government and the energy sector.
  • Drive coordination and consistency in planning deliverables across Transgrid's Class A and Class B projects, working closely with other senior leaders across the Network business unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead joint planning with AEMO, EnergyCo, and other Transmission Network Service Providers (TNSPs) in QLD, VIC, and SA.
  • Manage and mentor a high-performing team of Subject Matter Experts including Principal, Senior, and Planning Engineers.
  • Provide critical support for Regulatory Investment Tests (RIT-T) and Transmission Efficiency Tests, ensuring robust and efficient planning of major network augmentations.
  • Contribute to the technical development of new customer connections and future network system opportunities through Lumea.
  • Prepare and review advanced technical reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent Transgrid at national industry forums, technical committees, and conferences (e.g. ENA, Energy Charter).

What You Bring

  • Proven leadership in power system planning, system studies, and network development in the energy or utilities sector.
  • Strong understanding of national energy market frameworks and regulatory processes.
  • Experience collaborating with AEMO, government agencies, and other network operators.
  • Ability to deliver under pressure, manage competing priorities, and drive alignment across multiple stakeholders.
  • Deep technical knowledge of power system operations, risk analysis, and strategic transmission planning.
