Wärtsilä Energy Business is now on the lookout for a Chief Commissioning Engineer, Plant Automation to join our Construction and Commissioning Services team! We welcome applicants at various levels of seniority, as the role can be offered as Commissioning Engineer, Senior Commissioning Engineer, or Chief Commissioning Engineer.
This is a permanent position based in Vaasa, Turku, or Helsinki, Finland. As a travel-focused role specialising in plant automation commissioning, it involves extensive international assignments, with approximately 250 days per year spent working on-site abroad.
What will you be doing?
As a Chief Commissioning Engineer, you will be at the heart of bringing Wärtsilä Energy projects to life. You will play a key role in ensuring the successful commissioning and optimisation of Wärtsilä power plant automation systems. Your work will involve hands-on technical tasks, troubleshooting, and collaboration with global teams to deliver high-quality solutions for our customers.
Your responsibilities for the role include, but are not limited to
- Testing and commissioning of plant automation systems.
- Supervising installation and commissioning activities of Wärtsilä Power Plant solutions.
- Performing maintenance and troubleshooting on Wärtsilä products on-site.
- Supporting product improvements during warranty activities.
- Identifying and resolving failures, making adjustments, and assisting with system testing.
- Preparing internal and external reports in line with Wärtsilä standards.
- Designing, configuring, and troubleshooting automated control systems for power plants, including:
- PLC automation systems: Siemens Step 7, Siemens Step 7 V13 TIA Portal, Modicon Unity
- Industrial networking: Network IPs, ring switches, routers
- Server environments: Microsoft Hyper-V
- PLC networks: CAN Bus, Modbus, Profibus
Technical skills and qualifications
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Automation Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in similar tasks.
- Proven expertise in various PLC Automation Systems, including Siemens Step 7, Siemens Step 7 V13 TIA Portal, and Modicon Unity.
- Solid knowledge of industrial networking (IPs, ring switches, routers), server environments (Microsoft Hyper-V), and PLC Networks (CAN Bus, Modbus, Profibus).
- Prior experience with Wärtsilä 4-stroke engines and familiarity with Wärtsilä UNIC / SWOIS systems is considered an advantage.
- Excellent written and spoken English language skills.
