ABOUT THE ROLE

An exciting and challenging role within TransAlta's Financial Systems Center of Excellence is now available. We are looking for an experienced Financial Systems Support Advisor. This is a senior level position providing business user support in our financial systems and processes as well as planning financial cut over in reorganizations and acquisitions. This is an exciting role that touches every function in our organization, with lots of opportunity for career growth and zero chance of boredom.

This position is based out of our Downtown Calgary Head Office, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

  • Provide financial system or process expertise on complex matters from source data to consolidated results.
  • Build strong relationships with cross-functional departments to collaborate on system solutions.
  • Develop detailed workplans and cutover plans to support reorganization activities, including acquisitions, mergers, and consolidation efforts.
  • Partner on the preparation of financial statements and related financial statement components during transition events.
  • Maintain SAP system master data and related hierarchies where required.
  • Deliver necessary system and process training to keep TransAlta users up to date and maintain standards.
  • Use your system and organisational skills to step into challenging and exciting new project work as required.

ABOUT YOU

  • An accounting designation and post secondary education with 5+ years of relevant work experience in a financial systems support role.
  • Solid understanding of IFRS, SOX compliance, and financial statement preparation.
  • In depth experience with at least 3 of the following SAP modules: AA, AR, AP (VIM), PS, MM, TRM, CLM, BCS (BPC or Group Reporting)
  • Understanding of the interplay of MM, PM/EAM, SCM, Payroll, and Business Planning on core finance modules (FI/CO) and processes.
  • In depth experience with complementary tools such as Excel, Analysis for Microsoft Office, Power Query, BI.
  • Demonstrate substantial experience in daily support operations, along with adaptability and expertise to coordinate integration projects as needed.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a dynamic multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management skills and a demonstrated ability to prioritize time sensitive deliverables with minimal supervision.
