Job Description
This is a mid-level position that does not require extensive experience but requires someone who can multitask and is highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated. We will also consider entry-level candidates who have the potential to develop in the position.
Seated in Durham, North Carolina, or at a remote location, the candidate will oversee the project interconnection process for multiple development projects in Ecoplexus' project pipeline. This will be done by providing related interconnection management support to the development, design, construction, and finance teams.
This position will report to the Director - Transmission & Interconnection.
Job Responsibilities
Key Roles:
- Project manager - Manage the entire interconnection process for a portfolio of renewable development projects. The work entails timely completion of interconnection-related tasks and submissions, as well as generation (e.g., completing and submitting application forms) and coordination of deliverables (e.g., modeling data from the engineering team or site control documents from the real-estate team) from internal and external resources required by the Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) or the Transmission Utility.
- Interconnection subject matter expert - Developing and maintaining a fundamental understanding of current RTO and utility tariffs, interconnection processes, and other relevant rules or codes. As a subject matter expert, provide internal input or advice on strategic considerations, development pipeline, optimal siting, issue resolution, transmission analytics, and training.
- Company representative/liaison - Serve as the company representative, liaison, and point of contact for interacting with outside parties, including RTOs, utilities, and prospective customers.
- Researcher - Performing development support and transmission due diligence for risk and opportunity analysis, for example, tracking and monitoring interconnection queues, transmission plans, integrated resource plans, etc.
- Contracts Negotiation Facilitator - Lead and coordinate internally negotiation of interconnection-related agreements between utility and Ecoplexus.
- Modeling Assistant - Manages the CEII NDA, transmission model acquisition, modeling procedures research, and cost estimation processes for input into the modeling process. Initial review and evaluation of utility study results, including Feasibility, System Impact, and Facility Studies. Assist the transmission analytics team in preparing model input data and results analysis. May perform injection analysis and other transmission modeling if proficient. Create one-line diagrams and work with the engineering team or consultant to parameterize dynamic models.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field
- Project management experience or course completion
- General knowledge of the electricity business
- Ability to develop collaborative working relationships across multiple functional areas
- Ability to multitask and coordinate deliverables from several stakeholders in a timely manner
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills
- Resourceful, independent, driven, assertive, work well under pressure, a team player
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of experience in the renewable energy field or as a project manager
- Experience as an interconnection project manager
- Advance degree in power systems engineering or renewable energy
- Professional Engineer or Project Management Certification
- Experience working at or dealing with an RTO or transmission utility company
- Working knowledge of RTO and utility tariffs, business practices, protocols, procedures, guides
- Proficiency using Google Earth, GIS, and/or AutoCAD is a benefit (or equivalent)
- Proficiency using power system modeling using PSSE, PowerWorld, MUST, and TARA or other modeling applications
