Job Description
At SP Energy Networks, we are committed to delivering safe, reliable services that support Net Zero ambitions, foster trusted relationships with customers and stakeholders, and build a digital, data-driven workforce for the future. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead the Data Transformation of the Energy Industry within SPEN's newly established Network Data and Intelligence function. You will collaborate with Engineering, Planning, Finance, and Customer Service teams to manage, exploit, and improve data assets, ensuring robust infrastructure and governance that enable high-quality data and prepare the organisation for AI-driven opportunities.
What you'll be doing
Working closely with stakeholders across all levels, you will identify, catalogue, and interrogate data assets, establish quality standards, and drive continuous improvement. This includes leveraging our Data Governance tool to assess and enhance data quality, developing executive insights to monitor organisational data health, and supporting the creation of policies and procedures that embed data as a strategic asset. Your work will ensure security, interoperability, and accountability, enabling SP Energy Networks to operate in a truly data-driven environment.
- Work with our Business leads across the organisation to identify and catalogue the data and information which our business relies on for decision making and business operations, working closely with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop an understanding of the data across our organisation and develop quality standards which can be applied to our data sets and used to improve our engineering, network, planning, financial and customer data sets.
- Lead initiatives to support the business in how they access data across our organisation, working closely with our Data architecture team to ensure that the system infrastructure is in place to support business needs.
- Develop metrics to measure the quality and complexity of the data we use, providing insight and information that can be shared with our Leadership group.
- Identify and investigate data quality issues, developing required improvement plans.
- Support the development of standards, policies and processes, in line with Data Best Practice, and advise and support the implementation across SPEN.
- Collaborate with business units to ensure adherence to policies and standards.
- Embed a culture of industry leading best-practice with regards to managing, analysis and sharing data - proactively identify opportunities to drive business value.
- Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders and establish effective working relationships with SPEN and management teams in all parts of the business.
What you'll bring
- Proven experience in data governance, data management, data quality or similar role.
- Strong understanding of Data Governance principles and best practices, with prior experience of developing a data catalogue highly desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and time management skills, with the ability to articulate objectives and delivering projects with multiple milestones.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including consultation with others in the business lines, resolving differences and presenting a common perspective.
- Proficiency in preparing analysis, reports and presentations for senior management.
- Ability to approach problems systematically and objectively, to analyse facts and evaluate options, draw sound conclusions.
- Effective at managing change in a complex environment and creating a culture of engagement, positivity, agile delivery and focussed on outputs.
- Experience in data governance tools, particularly Informatica IDMC, or the ability to quickly develop functional skills with data catalogue products.
- Continual drive to seek innovative ways to make improvements based on current industry trends and best practice.

- Knowledge of data governance principles and tools.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Ability to analyse data and present insights effectively.
- Experience working across multiple business functions.
